Our stars step up in the playoffs. He built a pretty good team. Toronto failed him.Pitsburgh, what is you doing baby? Dumb move.
He did post this tweet...I was never a Dubas hater and still am not, but this just reaffirms how this is a business. Hope he does well for Pittsburgh but I did notice how he didn't express a single word of gratitude for the organization that gave him his first shot. That was a deliberate miss on his part.
As far as his performance being a GM, get ready to have a large influx of his SSM cohort start to creep in to your organization. No idea if they're good at what they do, but I can tell you that while being in charge his trades, drafting have been average at best. He was able to squeeze a lot of value out of veterans, but it was their desire to play in Toronto that was used as leverage for the team friendly deals, so can't say I give him tons of credit for that. Regardless, good move for his career and for his family.
Do you move before you know where you're going to next? And he really wasn't fired - his contract ran out.
Your argument goes both ways though.
Dubas inherited Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Rielly and Kadri and you're giving him credit for 'building' the team.
Why is it if a new GM inherits the same - now all the credit goes to Dubas? The Leafs entire core has basically been the same since before Dubas was GM.
Rielly, Matthews, Marner, Nylander were all part of the core before Dubas.
Dubas traded Kadri away for Kerfoot and paid Tavares 11M - that's as far as he went building the team.
This is a good lesson for you kids. Get yourself a pair of black framed glasses and hang around your local rinks with a clipboard using words like synergies and derivatives. You too can make 7M usd as an NHL executive.
You know who did a mix of Billy Bean and Fundamental strategy, Theo Epstein for Boston, who was hired by Fenway Sports. That’s not going to sit well with the Dubas Fan Boi Club who continue to insist that spreadsheets are the “new” way to build a sports team.
Just look at the “dynasty” that Bill Beano built in Oakland using spreadsheets. About as “successful” as Dubas has been with Toronto.
Toronto failed him like six times and he did nothing to change itOur stars step up in the playoffs. He built a pretty good team. Toronto failed him.
Don't the Leafs have 1 playoff round win in 19 seasons? Didn't that one win come with Dubas as the GM? So what is the excuse for the other 14 years where the Leafs couldn't win a round?
Lock up your former Soo Greyhounds. The Doobler is back in business.
And where is Dave Nonis today? So if Dave, who didn't win anything with Toronto can still manage to get a high level management job in the NHL, why can't Dubas?Dubas has won exactly ONE (1) more playoff series that luminaries such as Dave Nonis and Johnny Ferguson Jr.
That’s about the calibre of GM that Dubas is.
Edmonton likely already called to offer Jumpin Jack Campbell for a 1st round pick.
Expect that trade announcement shortly.
He's going to trade for Matt Murray again, isn't he?Lock up your former Soo Greyhounds. The Doobler is back in business.
Don't forget the pretentious gasbags, lots of them roving around as well.Feel bad for Penguins fans that they've inherited this roving group of posters who are so invested in their belief that Dubas sucks that they'll be in every thread involving the team for years
Did you ever stop to think that maybe the problem is Toronto media/fans/expectations that wear on everyone from management down through the players? Very similar to the New York market in football/basketball/baseball? Phil Kessel seemed to do alright when he left. Maybe the Star players who don’t do well in the playoffs have more to do with those losses, than the GM? Maybe to pressure of playing hockey in Toronto is why?Smart guy.
He took a team who lost in the first round 3 consecutive years before he was GM and traded 3 1st round picks only to lose in the first round 7 consecutive years. He then doubled down and traded another 2 1st round picks in his final year for a second round exit.
He's never proven any success at the NHL level - and now never has to because he's not the GM.
There's very few people who can obtain a high level position with zero results, Dubas seems to be one of them.

Baffle them with bullshit.
By the time everyone realizes you’re an incompetent fraud, you’ll be a multimillionaire.
Pitsburgh, what is you doing baby? Dumb move.
Going out on a limb here, but I bet, Pens fans hope he is more successful than he was in Toronto.I'm not at all surprised to see Dubas land another position so soon after leaving the Leafs. He was successful in Toronto, and I think he will have the resources to succeed in Pittsburgh as well.
There's a lot of angry, jealous people obsessed with his career path. It's pretty remarkable, and I think he has a good future ahead of him.
