I mean this is a real rough patch but I don't know that we are as atrocious as the results would have us believe. We are keeping things fairly even in terms of of shot metrics and but we are shooting under 5% in all situations and aren't getting goaltending. Our PDO is 95% so imo we have had some real poor puck luck this stretch. That will even out if we keep playing like tonight.

I’m really only speculating as we all are. Maybe Chevy is the reason he’s not playing maybe he isn’t. None of us know. I realize I’m playing devils advocate as I want Heinola in as much as the next guy. But it is totally in the realm of possibilities that they don't want to burn a year of his ELC. At this point its the only thing that makes sense

Sure it is but I doubt our GM talks the player up to the press as an option to help the dcore at the deadline after he isn't able to get the big fish he was chasing. To me when he said that he was very open to having Heinola in the lineup as an everyday player down the stretch.

He very well likely went into the year wanting to let the ELC slide but I think Heinola's high level play in the AHL and him not being able to grab a top 4 dmen at the deadline changed his plan.

I wouldn’t advise any significant trades until we have a coach who can deploy and strategize properly.
Couldn’t agree more. We need a fresh set of eyes utilizing the talent we have to the players strengths and roles that best give the team a chance to win. Likewise developing systems to the players strengths and not forcing players into a system that clearly doesn’t either work or players can’t play after giving at a long look.

I know we desperately need a new coach more than anything, but I’m pointing the blame squarely on Chevy more than anyone else right now. He’s just enabling these terrible coaching decisions by bringing in one useless vet after another. He’s had plenty of time to fix this gaping hole on defence for the last two years now, and nothing. If he really wanted our young guys in the lineup that badly then grow a pair of balls and tell the coach that’s what’s going to happen, or find one that will.

The hilarious thing about it to me is this is the best the team has played in 7 games. They weren't great but a bit snakebit.

I mean it was against the Sens. This is kinda how they win. You outplay them and they beat you. Sounds like another team I know.

Heinola has already played as much games as he has in any given season. You don’t think a 19 year old wants to earn 10 X’s his salary sitting in the PB and watching the NHL team rather than playing in the minors?
hb playing in the nhl, while earning his nhl salary, while helping the team play better? he's paid to play NHL hockey, not sit in the PB

I didn't think we'd see a coaching change this close to the playoffs but how long do you wait 10, 15 losses. I have to think if it goes beyond 10 you have to.
Why wait for 10? The writing is on the wall!
Maurice and player leadership are not on the same page. Maurice has shown no fix, no positive true shakeup addressing the poor play, no finish, along with their useless defensive structure. Power play sucks overall again. 4 sh'd goals against lately!!!?
So, they maybe best Calgary and one more, then poop the sheets into the playoffs anyways. Oh, coach has to stay because in the playoffs, one can't fire the coach during the playoffs! Right?
The future is clearly a mediocre false-front "same old" if sticking with Maurice and company!

The taxi squad pays him a NHL salary and much easier to keep a player content letting his ELC slide.

You are incorrect on this, that only applies to one way contracts:

"If a player is on a two-way NHL contract, he is paid his minor league salary, without any proration."

NHL to Taxi Squad to AHL Salary Structure.

So there is no salary benefit for him on the taxi squad over playing in the AHL.

This losing streak is so depressing it has forced me to break out into song

Ohhhhhhhhh
from head to toe
Jets are losers baby
so why don't we kill them

Especially since your typical PMo presser sounds like the verses to that song.

That is:

Murat Ares: "Paul, why do you continue to play Tucker Poolman first-pairing minutes?"
Maurice: "Forces of evil in a bozo nightmare ban all the music with a phony gas chamber, because one's got a weasel and the other's got a flag; one's on the pole, shove the other in a bag with the rerun shows and the cocaine nose-job."

I think like all hockey players he wants to be on the ice playing and not in the press box.
Have you ever been poor? In his mind he has already played as many games as he has ever had. Every week on the Taxi squad is actually about 12x’s his AHL salary. Not much inventive to grind it out in the minors.

For all we know Heinola wanted to go back home because of Covid and the uncertainty of what the AHL season would look like and Chevy promised to keep him on the taxi squad for the most part even if he wouldn't get in many games so he could at least draw an NHL salary as his motivation to stick around? No clue if that is true or not but wouldn't be out of the realm of possibilities. Point is it could be a lot of things. Some of Chevys doing maybe or could be all Mo. we don't know and we are all only speculating so can be no right or wrong answers here

Please see another post, you are wrong he is earning his AHL salary on the taxi squad.

Also playing the poor card really? He would have gotten a $90k signing bonus cheque this past summer plus whatever he made on his Europe team plus whatever portion he made in the AHL plus his two NHL games. he is taking home a good $200k US this year.

What? No he hasn't.

I don't understand why people are under the impression that Maurice would choose to play Heinola if he could. Maurice doesn't play Heinola because inserting Heinola in the team results in only 3 players who fit Maurice's outdated idea of an effective NHL D-man who breaks up plays and clears in front of the net. Maurice makes the team worse because he thinks it improves the team to have big physical D-men play over Heinola.

I doubt Chevy is telling Maurice to play Poolman and Forbort in the top 4... Both UFA... Doubt he's telling him to play Benn over Stanley. I think it's quite obvious looking at the makeup of the roster that this is Paul Maurices team on the ice. He chooses who to play and who plays where. There are 2 many of the same examples in Maurices past history as a coach to say Chevy is telling him to play or not to play anyone. Chevy certainly has hinted at Heinola playing leading me to believe that Maurice thinks poolman Forbort and Benn are better options than Ville and Logan for that matter.

There's so many excuses for Maurice it's insane. Didn't matter when Chevy gave him 3 top RHD plus Toby and a young Josh.

All of a sudden our perennial 30 goal guys can't even hit the net? Don't look like they even care most shifts and excuses after excuses... This is Paul Maurices Jets. It's obvious
