Blaming Forbort for this loss is ridiculous. Here’s some numbers. 0-6. 1 shorty. PK 3-3.

Imagine dressing and playing a 20 year old former first round pick, and that player makes the most of that opportunity and helps fill an obvious hole in the team.

Oh well, back to Benn next game I guess.

Yep.

But we need to “see Benn play,” because 541 games ain’t enough. Or Forbert, and the playoffs are “physical,” so only giant plugs succeed there. And lord knows we can’t use some smart transitional or breakout play, because our forwards are all scoring so well.

And people get on Scheifele but i'm sorry Dubois looks lost and only putting in a halfassed effort every single game.

I've been picking on PLD a lot lately too - But I'm reconsidering.

If anyone was dropped into this jumbled mess of a line up and asked to play high skill hockey, drive play, be a difference maker in a line up that is struggling, and make everyone forget about Laine, - I'd expect they would all have a pretty good chance of failing.

This is likely why you don't see those young Dmen being dropped in - how do you think they'll do when you consider the state things are in.
Bringing in high value prospects and playing them in this theatre would be cruel - and potentially damaging.

I know - I'm on my own with this take.

They wouldn't be spending to the cap in a pandemic year with no gate revenue if their plan isn't to win as soon as possible. They may be failing at it right now but asking anyone to believe they plan to win 2 years from now and not now is outrageous. It's just doomer nonsense.

This team was going to be close to the cap either way. Spending to the cap this year doesn’t indicate trying to win IMO

Fans are back soon have to show them they are trying

See Benn play is one of the dumber thing Maurice has said lately, if Boo Boo was ready he would throw him into the line up too.

Not alone. I agree. Don’t pile on the 22yo dropped into this dysfunction. Point the finger at the shitty coaching, favoritism, first line floaters.

I’m not convinced that was Chevy’s call to make.

Chipman is on record as feeling “blessed” to have Paul Maurice as his coach — and Chippers is a guy who takes blessings seriously.
Kissing his rosery sure ain't working, not on Jets +'ve end anyways.

Actually, these horrible underlying metrics have been the case for 3 seasons...not just this season

Yeah. 2018 was a peak and we’ve been back sliding and maybe plateaued now at a last playoff spot kind of team. My fear is that the organization views playoffs as a goal, as a significant accomplishment and somehow attaches Maurice’s coaching to making/keeping us a “playoff team.”

We should have been setting our sights higher...hard to say now what’s reasonable given our D corps but if we have some hope in prospects and acquisitions we have to get out of this loop.

He has been using that since his arrival. Even guys that did PK work in the AHL haven’t been given NHL PK work at times. Maurice doesn’t have those guys on his preferred PKer list.

I feel like Iron Mark Stuart is still the first name on that list, in a TigerBeat poster kinda way. A guy who strikes fear into an opposing PP by lunging and failing to lay them out at the blue line.

You are definitiely not on your own with regards to PLD. That has been my take as well, he was dropped into a team with not much of system after a quarantine and with limited practice and he looks like a player who doesn't know what he is doing because most of our players don't know what they are doing on a night to night basis. I expect he will be much better next year after a full training camp.

I hadn't thought about your last point and that could be a reason to hold them out although at this point I would say why not try it. Montreal was playing bad hockey and loosing a lot but that didn't stop them from inserting their promising youngster in Caulfield. Really nothing to lose at this point imo.

If you can get Heinola in with DeMelo maybe you can run that behind Morrissey and Pionk and let Stanley and Poolman man the bottom pairing.

PLD does not look real comfortable with the puck.....pretty shaky in fact.....not sure how much of it is not being even sure about his role here.

Does anyone really know what they are doing in our system right now? We've had success with this system before. But we also had the defence to facilitate it. Fire wagon hockey can only last for so long.

Nope and I imagine it is even tougher for him as he came from such a regimented system under Torts where everyone knew exactly what their role was.
