Martin actually plays defense, and has a very good bounceback year for the Pens.

He is not and never has been a 5 million dollar a year defenseman, he may be better defensively than Letang, but he is extremely overpaid. He is on the wrong side of 30 and it showed with numerous injuries last year. Letang is way more valuable to the Pens than Martin, anyone who thinks differently needs to watch more Penguin games.

Is he counting in the possible departures of Asham/Powe? That clears up a little more room.

Do you think Sather can get some of these guys signed to bridge contracts to give the rangers more time for when the cap goes up in the next three years...

Slats is always low balling; expecting short term contracts for at least one of the two.

Brassard and Nash can't play together. Two teams now, and it still doesn't work. I'd switch Brass and Step, as Step was the only center that played well with Nash.

Boyle on the 3rd line is making me nauseous, but we're a Top 6 wing away from doing anything about it.

You are right about Nash and Brass, but when will this board stop penciling in Hags and Cally, they are not going to be ready to start the season.

And i actually like all the signings. Pleasantly surprised.

Wonder if there are a couple of trades coming for draft picks, namely Asham and Powe.

Separately from that i wonder if we see a trade for a top 6 LW.

Sather hasn't been perfect but he has been better the past few years with managing the cap. I don't think he would've signed these contracts today without having something in the works to clear Powe and Asham out.

I seriously think this team could be out of it by the deadline. They have no offense and they're soft. How they managed to pull off that generally at odds combo is beyond me.

Never say never, but I'm pretty close to this viewpoint.

Though the Rangers seem to do better with tempered expectations...
