I think Pyatt is a goner with the moves made today. He has to be. They need that cap space.

Pyatt, Powe, Asham get you a little over $2 million to work with. Don't hit the panic button yet.

EJ Hradek has without a doubt the most punchable face I have ever seen.

I had to change the channel. I can't even look at him.

Lucic-Krejci-Iginla
Marchand-Bergeron-Eriksson

Nice. Top 3 skilled top 6 in the league

Actually it would be a little over 3 million.

so the 11.1 brooks mentioned is going to increase with Asham and Powe off the cap?

yea Brooks is a weirdo. They can also go over the cap by 10%. Flyers are over it but will be under when Pronger is buried in Long Term.

So, being pretty uneducated at cap stuff, what are we going to end up doing to create more cap space aside from trading players out?

putting Asham and Powe through waivers before the start of the season and then assigning them to Hartford will open up approx. 2 mil of space because only about 200,000 of their salaries will then count against the cap. Those are options too

I completely agree, Powe and Asham will be in Hartford to start the year if no one claims them once they are waived at the start and either Pyatt, Boyle, or Dorsett will be traded. I expect Pyatt to be moved, but we will see.

My apologies. Thank you for catching that. Even better.

Matt Cooke signs for $7.5 M over 3 years in Minny

@TSNRyanRishaug. Performance based for Iginla. 1 year $6 mil with Bruins.

Makes me think Jagr gets around 4.

i would love to see cooke blow off Malkins head just for the irony.

That would be priceless. But let's make it crosby's.

Iginla is about as much of a top line winger as Jagr and Clowe at this point.

I have a feeling he'll play better on a slower line with Lucic on it. I kid you not, but Iggy had better regular season numbers than Horton. Perfect Horton replacement.

Serious question, have you ever had an optimistic outlook for this team. Your negativity is so ****ing annoying 24/7.

We're fine. I'm glad we're not signing scrubs and going to give talented kids a chance to succeed.

Good teams become great by allowing young guys to play huge roles.

Agree 100%

1 question and 1 observation from the Iggy signing

How is Boston going to re-sign Rask.

Seems teams will be able to technically circumvent the cap by making a lot of the contract bonus based.

Iginla's contract is actually 1.8 million, with the rest being bonus based. I'm sure the bonuses are easily reachable, but it's basically so they can defer some of that salary to next season.

Edit: I think i answered my own rask question.

bruins will have to move some salary now to stay under the cap, unless they are not going to resign Rask. With Iginla they'll be under the cap by about 2 mil, but even with Savard going on LTIR that only gives them 6 mil to work with and id be shocked if Rask signs for 6 mil or less.

EDIT: interesting about Iginla's bonuses, that explains how they can do it.

Trade has to be coming.

Totally agree

Care to call it anyone?

NMC - denotes No Movement Clause in Contract

2014 Draft picks
  • 1st round NYR
  • 2nd round NYR
  • 3rd round NYR
  • 4th round NYR
  • 5th round Florida (for Casey Wellman)
  • 6th round NYR
  • 7th round NYR*

  • NO 5th rounder NYR traded to San Jose for Ryan Clowe in 2013 - conditions being if he does not resign with NYR - then San Jose gets the 5th pick.
  • Eventually NO 7th rounder (conditionally traded to San Jose along with Tommy "horror-movie" Grant for Brandon Mashinter 2013 - condition being if he resigns with NYR then San Jose gets the pick). B. Mashinter has now been qualified - likely meaning this pick is going to San José

We should get rid of Biron. 1.3M is too much for a backup goalie who rarely needs to play given that we have Lundqvist.

I wouldn't be so quick to say we're going to be trading anyone just yet. We have $16m in cap to work with for our RFAs for the rest of the summer. Hagelin and Callahan will be on LTIR at the beginning of the year, unless the team is under the Cap anyway. There isn't a worry in offer sheets here. Pyatt, Asham, Powe are just as likely to all be Rangers at camp than not, at the moment.
