I think the Jagr ship has sailed and I'd be surprised if Sather was seriously considering him.

However, Jagr is still amongst the best in the league when it comes to puck protection, an element that is needed on this team. I wouldn't mind if he was utilized on the 3rd line and as a PP specialist, but I have a hard time believing he would take less money than what Zuccarello would potentially cost.

I'm not advocating letting Zuccarello walk or signing Jagr, but Jagr had more points last season than Zuccarello has in his career.

Zuccarello has only played a total of 67 NHL games in his career. Maybe my choice of words was not right. For the contract Zuccarello gets, he gives more than Jagr. Apart from the fact we don't have the cap space for Jagr, I think we should focus on retaining players familiar with the team, teammates etc. Zucc, statistically, had a better post-season than Jagr. Stats can be interepreted in many ways.

id take jagr over Zucc even now.

but jagr will cost us $$$...cant really make it happen.

Though if you could get him for 1 year at say 4 mil, then dump Pyatt, Asham, and Powe you could make it work.

Chris Kreider ($1.325m) / Derek Stepan ($2.750m) / Rick Nash ($7.800m)
Brad Richards ($6.667m) / Derick Brassard ($3.200m) / Ryan Callahan ($4.275m)
Carl Hagelin ($1.750m) / Dominic Moore ($1.000m) / Jaromir Jagr ($4.500m)
Benoit Pouliot ($1.300m) / Brian Boyle ($1.700m) / Derek Dorsett ($1.633m)
DEFENSEMEN
Ryan McDonagh ($4.700m) / Marc Staal ($3.975m)
Dan Girardi ($3.325m) / Michael Del Zotto ($2.550m)
Anton Stralman ($1.700m) / John Moore ($0.965m)
GOALTENDERS
Henrik Lundqvist ($6.875m)
Martin Biron ($1.300m)
OTHER
Buried: Arron Asham ($0.075m)

(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,506,667; BONUSES: $762,500
CAP SPACE (20-man roster): $1,555,833

1.5 mil to play with.

not much space granted, but it is doable.

kreider stepan nash
pouliot brassard cally
hagelin Richards zucc
boyle powe dorsett
that would be fine

Really seems like a bubble team to me. If Pouliot is on the 2nd line for an extended period of time they are gonna have a tough time making the playoffs.

No team with a defense of Staal, McDonagh, DZ, Girardi, Stralman, and Moore and Hank in net is a bubble team, at least IMO. I don't think our forwards are very good, but I think it's a decent group of forwards. Hagelin still has room to develop, too, I think he's a 2nd line player moving forward.

Fair, especially on paper. If one of the top-3 dmen go down it could get a bit muddier. Though thats the same with any team. It will be interesting to see how Hank fares this year, #s wise. I think it's possible that the collapsing dzone system really helped his #s. More shots but limited high quality chances.

I definitely think the forwards are decent. There is upside if breaks go right. I just would personally slot it in as a top 6-10 offense in the East. A lot depends on what kind of PP we see.

I agree here. Our defense and Goaltender has gotten us into the playoffs, not our forwards. Doing something while there might be hard, but the addition of Moore has only made our D-corps deeper and Henrik is Henrik.

I think his numbers will be about the same. He'll see more shots without other players constantly trying to get in the way and block them. And even in Tort's system, we still gave up a lot of quality chances. If we can spend more time in the offensive zone, that alone should balance out the change in defensive style.

Hank was a great goalie before Torts got here. He will still be a great goalie now that Torts is gone.

yea for G to D this team is one of the best.

Hank is the man.

LD is crazy good with Staal, McD, DZ. All young and can get better
RD is fine with Girardi but that 2nd spot is up for grabs. Maybe Moore can take that spot or they keep more LD and deal DZ for a RD. Stalman is a solid 6th and Falk and McIlrath are physical options.

Yea they need to find ways to score goals but last yr they had Nash AND Gaborik and that didnt work. I think depth is the best way to go and they have that now in many areas

On vacation and saw that Grabovski was bought out. I'd go after him. The top 6 needs an infusion of talent. Creates more depth and flexibility in the top 6.

I don't think it was the money factor so much as it was the not-wanting-to-play-for-Winnipeg factor. They should have traded him.

They still own his rights though. If he goes to the KHL and does well, then those rights might be worth more down the road.

We should consider offering the Jets something cheap but acceptable now for Burmi's rights.
The clock is running. 2 years
Closer to that , more likely Burmistrov returns.

But we may get him at discount now.
Then, whether or not and how long we have to wait is another story.
Main thing is, if we can, get him cheap.

Marc Staal missed HUGE portions of the last 2 seasons...we still weren't a bubble team.

Seems like when this team is projected to miss the playoffs, they make a fair amount of noise, and when they're projected to be a powerhouse, they fall vastly short of expectations.

As much as I hate to say it....I'd consider us last year as a bubble team.

However, that's with playing like crap for an extended streak which imo, we we're much better than.

We will finish in last place. Come on everybody! Say it with me!

:sarcasm:

I really don't know what the fascination with Burmistrov:shakehead
Is he a great playmaker? Scorer?
All I know is he's young, small, drafted I believe 8th overall, and hasn't produced much offensively. I know he skates well and kills penalties. That's all very good, but alot of sizzle and not much steak, if you ask me. I'd rather keep a player like Zucc actually. That's just me.

A bubble team? If the PP fails to gain traction then you are probably looking at a bubble team. With a normalized PP then the team can climb.

Having staal back is a big plus. I only see the offense improving with a change in the style of play. A more uptempo game will see the GA rise. Thus, without a PP, a team not much better than last year?
