Source tells @TGfireandice Marek Zidlicky had a two-year offer ($4.5 million per) on the table from a team Friday; has yet to sign anywhere.

its not the Rangers.. unless Del Zotto and Boyle gets shipped and even then that isnt enough cap space.

The reason I don't worry about offer sheets is because the player has to actually sign them. Which means they actually have to be unhappy with the offers they are getting and/or have a large enough ego to think they are worth some exorbitant amount.

Considering the negotiations between Sather and our RFA's (minus Dubinsky) generally go pretty smoothly offer sheets are kind of a moot point.

Not sure if this has been posted or not, but I wonder if Slats feels the same way about McD:

Weber's offer sheet was heavily front loaded as a means to take advantage of a smaller market team. The changes to contract variance prohibit those kind of contracts. The smallest year can't be less than 50% of the highest year on backdiving contracts. So if year 1 is 10 mil, no other year can be less than 5 mil.

In any case, it's not something that would have been effective against the Rangers. What matters to the Rangers is the cap hit. But I wouldn't worry about that either. Every year, people think we are too tight to the cap and other teams will take advantage with offer sheets. It has yet to happen and it won't happen this year either.

Not sure I agree with your reasoning, if the offer they got from another team was substantially better than what they were receiving from their own team, there's no reason to think they wouldn't sign it

What if they didn't want to play for that team? That's the reason to think they wouldn't sign it.

Stepan and McDonagh both want to remain Rangers and know the Rangers will give them what they want or close to it to keep them, not worried

Very few instances I can think of where a player from a major market team signs an offer sheet elsewhere

Stepan said he wants to be a career Ranger so hopefully that means we won't have to worry about him signing one

In 06-07 the Rangers got Brendan Shanahan, a hall of fame player coming off a 40-40-80 season with the Red Wings for one year, 4 million dollars.

I get the cap has gone up, but still... I think the number of quality players in this league is a little lower than it once was.

I can not overstate how happy I am that the Rangers have stayed out of the major UFA market so far. Moore and Pouliot add very good depth pieces who skate well and can fill their roles well.

Moving forward, I think Boyle is on the block. It has been rumored. Moore was signed to be the 4c. He would not have been signed unless they have him a physical and saw him skate a bit. Edmonton is looking for a big forward and a 3/4c. Edmonton and the Rangers are comfortable making trades.

St Louis and Detroit need to make moves. Perron seems to be on the block. Hard to know what they need. Detroit, the additions of Alfredsson and Weiss and the return of Helm have WAY too many forwards.

Datsyuk
Zetterberg
Weiss
Alfredsson
Bertuzzi
Franzen
Helm
Abdelkader
Samuelsson
Eaves
Miller
Tootoo
Ericsson
Tatar
Nyquist

Too many forwards. Would they be interested in MDZ or Boyle? Tatar or Nyquist would add a ton of skill and more youth.

I wonder if Iginla would take a similar deal? I know they would need to move some cap, but if they can trade MZA's rights + Boyle/Pyatt that is the space they need. He would be a nice addition.

Iginla signed with the Bruins...

The plan at this point seems to be to keep the roster as stable as possible; at least unless Sather has been trying to make moves all this time and just hasn't found the right one.

Keeping Richards, not moving a dman to get into the first round, it indicates to me that we're looking for a coaching change, but sticking with the same personnel.

Has Antropov been signed yet?

Oops! It's Sunday night.

Nope not yet. I think they need to make a deal. Too many players.

almost every player sans Iginla had an absurd scoring year that first year post lockout, so the point totals may throw it off a bit.

Shanahan at that point is the same as what Iginla is right now. Shanahan was paid $4mil in a league where the cap was set at $44mil while Iginla would be making $6mil in a league where the cap is at 64mil. Shanahan's cap hit in today's equivalence would be $5.8 mil while Iggy's current caphit would be $4.125mil back in 06-07 (adjusted).

I'm really not understanding how Pyatt has not been traded or waived. At this point he is useless. There are better players already under contract. Get a depth player for the AHL plus a late pick for next years draft and move on.

Because the Rangers have summer cap maneuverability, they might keep Pyatt until Hagelin and Callahan come back off of IR. Then, they can waive him and send him down/ have him claimed.

He'll fill a role at LW for awhile, then they'll let him go. That's my guess.

Wait what? Summer cap?

Ericsson is a defenseman. I don't see them signing Cleary and I expect their lines to be set at:

Franzen-Datsyuk-Alfredsson
Zetterberg-Weiss-Samuelsson
Abdelkader-Helm-Miller
Nyqvist-Andersson-Tatar (AHL top line)
Eaves/Bertuzzi/Tootoo

That leaves TBert, Eaves and Tootoo available for the pickings, which I have zero interest in acquiring.

Or knowing Holland, he'll probably start Tatar down in the minors and give Bertuzzi one more chance. If he falters, he has the best farm depth in the league to rely on. Well oiled machine. He did the same to Nyqvist too.

they need bodies to play for Hagelin/Callahan.

They stated they wanted to infuse a bit of youth into the lineup this year. At what point do they allow young players like Miller, Kristo, Hrivik, Fast, Lindberg to take a step? I'm pretty sure they won't allow them all to start in the same season so allow 1 or 2 to start this season and another couple next year. They have young talent, let them play.

Here's one: Hal Gill? He's old and slow, but let's face it, he wouldn't be a regular on our defense night in and night out anyways. Some more D-depth, a guy who has experience and has gone all the way. CHEAP ONLY! And of course, only if we trade guys and/or have room for him after the RFA signings.
