If Gorton is playing chess, I hope he makes a good move soon. So far Free Agency has been the equivalent of getting a few pawns taken, and Fast was a Knight or Bishop. Now would be a good time for Gorton to snag a Rook or the Queen and make us all forget how bad this has been so far and to help it all make sense.

Fast is not a knight or a bishop.

That's all it is. Just having discussions on the two biggest days of the off-season. Makes me the bad guy.

I think some people just want roster building to always be about them, not mentioning any names.

I'm holding you to that last part!
Regarding this season it looks like we might be the Leafs for a season lmao.

but once the kids get some seasoning we will be a damn tank.

If we're actually the Leafs this coming season, sign me up. That sounds like a lot of fun and don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting to win the Cup by any means.

I hope they're right about Panarin. I think they're putting a lot of faith into him holding steady in his early 30's.

Zadorov is no giveaway. I’ve watched games that he’s impacted simply with his physical presence. Saad, although having a championship pedigree, is overrated.

If I had to guess he will be good until the day he retires. And I’m assuming he would retire in his late 30s.

And yeah if I knew the NYR doesn’t have chance to win the cup then I’m ok with them being like the leafs.

Again, assuming this team keeps both Strome and ADA they should be better than last year even with no Fast.

Kreider - Mika - Buch
Panarin - Strome - Kakko
LAF - Chytil - Kravs
Lemieux - Howden - Gauthier(Barron)

Smith - Trouba
Lindgren - Fox
Miller - ADA

Igor
Georgiev

I'm not sure how the blue line is going to work out exactly but the overall roster, especially the bottom 6, is much better.

Smith on the top pairing?
How in the f*** is this still even a remote possibility??
That's a straight up fireable offense at this point..
:hit:

Not gonna lie, losing Fast for a deal like that stings. 3x2m to re-up him was a no brainer, longterm he would've been pushed down the line up where we need depth. There was no need for a Jack Johnson signing with Bieto. Also considering the weird trade market and values we're seeing, Strome is worth next to nothing, so you're stuck resigning him or walking away. Also now worried they'll move Ada just to move him, so expecting to be disappointed with any return. Disappointing offseason so far, and not because they didn't address big holes, but somewhat questionable asset management with the ufa's and some of the silly picks they made.

May ultimately be willing to sign a longer deal for less. Has not filed for arbitration yet.

Of course, but even if he signs for longer at say $2.5m they've only saved that amount in cap space while making their roster worse IMO. Yeah there are other moves they can be looking to make (Sergachev?, a run at Hall?) but unless they've got something 90% lined up it seems like a pretty crappy trade for not a heap of cap saving
