If Gorton is playing chess, I hope he makes a good move soon. So far Free Agency has been the equivalent of getting a few pawns taken, and Fast was a Knight or Bishop. Now would be a good time for Gorton to snag a Rook or the Queen and make us all forget how bad this has been so far and to help it all make sense.

I dont think he is any good either. Just dont see them as being satisfied right now. Rooney and Blackwell are depth.

Blackwell had really good analytics to the point where I'd take a flier on him on the 4th line.

I dunno, signing RFA contracts is different than signing UFA ones, so I kind of disagree with that
Not trying to be smart here but can you name a guy who got a new contract and was traded by that team in the same off-season?

Fast was a great player for what he was and in the grand scheme of this rebuild this is not a huge loss.

His mins will be replaced by someone. At first that someone won't PK as well, or do the dirty work for Panarin as well, but in a couple years someone will have replaced Fast's roles and do it even better.

I have no insiders but I bet we didn't offer him a 3rd year. At Fast's age he probably wanted a 3rd year. Or he wanted to go to a team that has a very good chance of making the cup next year, not 3 years from now like our most realistic timeline. That's it.
Nothing more or less.

I know we all get amped for free agency but I think if we show a little patience this year it's going to pay off in the next couple years. Patience is tough but we are getting very close to a huge payoff for the patience of the last few years.

re: Fast, the Rangers, Carolina, and contract offers (if true):

What's hard for me to understand here is jumping from the Rangers to the Hurricanes, supposedly for less money, in what is somewhat of a lateral move. I mean, he's giving up playing with Panarin to go to a team that's a little ahead of where we are in the grand scheme of things. I'd understand Colorado, or a team like that, but Carolina? I don't get it. Nothing against Carolina, but I don't think they're on the cusp of winning it all.

That’s what the word was.

Wondering if he sees a Carolina team that could make a run sooner, things he is less likely to be moved and likes the ability to pocket more money.
I also think - no slight to DQ - that Brind’amour is held in incredibly high regard around the league.

Carolina is the best team in Metro if their Goalie is in form. East is wide open.

Ain’t nothing wrong with loving to talk sports. Better than politics:laugh:

Also I promise you Kreider will lift the cup in a NYR sweater
That's all it is. Just having discussions on the two biggest days of the off-season. Makes me the bad guy.

I think some people just want roster building to always be about them, not mentioning any names.

I'm holding you to that last part!

Apparently skipping down the street while doing it. Sorry I missed it. :)

I don't equate "rant" with "happy", either, FWIW.
Literally, yes. I was actually skipping down the street.

And if you don't happy rant, you haven't been in New York in awhile!

Unfortunately we just don't know the details behind this yet. It could be we gave him a lower offer, or we gave him a better offer and he still chose Carolina. It's all speculation until we get more information on this.

That's fair but still not really sure I'm buying that this is on Fast..
