Look, on the surface I can't understand it. But look deeper and there may be things that aren't aapparent and we're not privy to.

My thoughts

1) Threre's no evidence that Fast would sign that contract here.

3) Rather than mourning Fast or killing JD/JG, I'm more interested in who this team sees killing penalties.

I was worrying about overpaying Fast (both in terms of years and dollars). Carolina certainly didn't do that. That said, Fast is an old 29 — with a fair bit of wear on the tires. He's going to a state with a lower rate and to a team that is a legit cup contender. And the Ranger just can't offer either of those.

Avs mismanaged his contract last offseason and paid for it now after his showing (especially in the playoffs).

The only reason the Avalanche don’t win cups will be attributed to being cute economically (not getting the extra pieces, bridge deals on the wrong guys, going cheap on the goalies).

No.. No he's not.
Both are trash and don't belong on NHL ice.
You want to make the argument that they PK, fine but they should be doing it from the 4th pairing.. In the AHL lol
 
This is bottom line with Fast. The dude brought effort every game. He played hard, did the right things and he competed. It was noticeable because he was one of the few that had the consistency.

That being said, if you lose Fast and your team is void of workers.... your problem isn't that you lost Jesper Fast. Your problem is that you don't have a good work ethic in your identity.

This group better figure it out. They better play like Fast and Zibanejad shift to shift. Kreider has the tools but he goes long periods between being noticeable a lot of nights. If he's a leader he better bring it, and I mean between the ears and making a difference if he is in a dry spell.

Not to single one guy out. But there is something lacking in the team character and he is labeled as the leader by many. If the players don't address it, Quinn better do something because Gorton and JD seem like they will sooner than later.

Again, Fast was a hell of a soldier but a team has more problems if his subtraction is devastating.

Thats the way it was for parts of last year also. We are obviously weak at that position. If they don't acquire a top 4 LHD somehow this off season then I'm afraid we may see that again.
 
Seems this is going to be a year for watching the development of what we have before making any more definitive moves. It's not like this years team will be last year's, plus Laf. We could see some to a lot of improvement from many young players. Not exactly a wasted year. I still think they should be pushing hard for a playoff spot.

both are on this roster and considering the options, Smitm-Trouba is probably a better paring than Johnson-Trouba.

wow that's terrible though, why did the sign Johnsons. He must be some team guy that they went that route.
