Right?

Like, nobody thought we were in on Hall or Pietrangelo or wanted to be given our needs.

I was hoping to be in on a slew of talented bottom 6 players and instead we lost one.

Which is all true, but the two reasons I feel like we shouldn't be hitting the panic button yet:

1. There are still guys out there that fit the bottom 6 criteria that we can sign.
2. $2M per contract aside, not bringing back Fast realistically is not going to kill this team. If anything, I'm happy to not have to worry about what the 3 year from now version of Fast looks like, or how that may be impacting other younger players spots on the team.

Really? What about the additions of LAF, and Kravs? What about having Kakko in his second year? What about having Gauthier for a full year and possibly Barron? What about having Igor for the entire year instead of him playing 15-20 games? There are a lot of reasons to think this team will be better than least years team which was 1 point out of a playoff spot when the season ended.
So then we're back to just waiting for things to naturally progress.

It's one or the other.

I'm guilty of this as much as anyone but I think Rangers fans are spoiled and entitled when it comes to trade and FA.
yes, not wanting the Rangers to sign the worst defenseman in the NHL while their best defensive forward goes to a rival at a cheap rate is grounds for being called spoiled. What are you guys talking about? No one is asking for a big time acquisition, how about just improving around the margins? If Fast wanted to go then there's nothing we could do but until that's verified it's fair to question what the hell happened.

We'll see what happens at 2C. I'd like to see a move there.

If it's Strome again and all we've done this offseason is self-high-five over getting Lafreniere, I'm gonna be very unhappy.

Swedish purge in action....Andersson gone....Lundqvist gone....Fast gone ....maybe Nils Lundkvist next ? We'll survive and that is a given and maybe even thrive while doing so . Team needs one more prick like player up front....and that certainly was not Fast . Is Clifford signed yet ?

Yeah but if we're going with the same team plus Laf, which isn't going to move the needle enough (no disrespect to Laf) then we're just burning a year.

That's a year off of Fox's ELC, a year off Kakko's, Kreider a year older, Zibanejad a year older, Panarin a year older.

We made a lot of very aggressive moves and now we've just....stopped.
I don't think they're looking towards FA to be aggressive at this point, and don't get me wrong, I don't love what they've done with the FA signings so far either. Also feels like there should be pause given thanks to the state of the world right now

There were no promises the team would be drastically revamped during the off season. We know changes are coming, but it may be now or during the season.

I mean it’s unreasonable make huge moves every Season like we did last year. I mean getting Laf is one of the biggest things to happen to us so I’m pretty damn happy

What? Those changes I mentioned are not insignificant. This team can make the playoffs next year although they are not going to win the cup.
This sounds like our entire history.
No it’s not. Building a team isn’t black and white. There are so many moving parts to this team. You can’t just Compartmentalize each move as we are or aren’t still in rebuild mode
But it has been very black and white. We've made competitive moves and we've made "tear it down" moves. We haven't done much of anything in terms of transitional moves or bringing in stop-gaps. We have positions where we're absolutely set and others that are a dumpster fire.

GMs aren't absolved from missing out on a player, so long as they "made an offer". GMs have more power than just making or declining to make offers.

Fast should have been a layup fo us to keep. The fact that he signed for so little with Carolina is an indication that we didnt try hard enough to keep him. It's a loss, a pretty ugly one.

Gorton apologists can sugarcoat it all they want, but its pretty self-explanatory.

But that's the thing. Why would we be super aggressive last year (not knowing we'd get Lafreniere and being in an objectively further behind position) and then be super passive this year?

Sorry this is f***ing annoying watching all these other teams sign depth players to great deals.

On second thought, all our RFA’s have filed for arbitration, maybe Gorton is being very careful with cap space for the moment.

Exactly, this offseason is still in progress, and there will still be a few moves left both internally (TDA, Strome) and externally (now that bringing back Fast is off the table).

Who are the top depth forwards out there?
