One thing that would be nice to see is guys starting to become leaders. Mika grabbed that by the horns the last few years. Panarin will be more comfortable to lead in year 2. Same for Trouba. Kreider is already one to lead.

Need others to step up in those roles. Buch is going to be leaned on now. He cannot bounce back and forth anymore. He's a vet on this roster. Might be looking for him to step into that kind of role with the amount of experience lost this offseason.

The locker room culture has changed drastically over the last few weeks. The old guard is gone. Time for new guys to step up.

We're going to end up with three different tribute videos next year, or whenever we have hockey again.

The stupidity here is baffling.

Gorton offered Fast a contract. That means he wanted to keep him here. Fast is the one who walked.

Some of you guys have delusions of grandeur every single off-season. I think many of you care more about signings and trades than building an actual team.

You guys are blaming Gorton without actually knowing specific details. That’s so f***ing dumb.

That’s a swift kick in the nuts. $2m per season? Seriously? Gorton, very easily, should have been able to scoop up a little but better depth yesterday and today. I understand having a price and sticking with it but these contracts are NOT at all unreasonable. Most of them are what I’d consider as team friendly.

Why are you yelling at us? We're trying our best.

And maybe he will still.

The years are the bigger issue than the money there

Maybe Fast also decided he wanted to go a team that had a better shot at winning it all next year, while also getting his cash. If Rangers offered the same contract even, it isn't wild to think he'd prefer to go the team better built to win right now

I'm guilty of this as much as anyone but I think Rangers fans are spoiled and entitled when it comes to trade and FA.

Unless he signed a one year deal that's a likely chance wherever he signed

True because I doubt anyone is giving him a NMC. But looking at rosters and who is projected to be protected, he may have felt (or been told) that Carolina will protect him

Feels like we're transitioning from one to the other
Yeah but if we're going with the same team plus Laf, which isn't going to move the needle enough (no disrespect to Laf) then we're just burning a year.

That's a year off of Fox's ELC, a year off Kakko's, Kreider a year older, Zibanejad a year older, Panarin a year older.

We made a lot of very aggressive moves and now we've just....stopped.

Exactly. While having JJ on your team at all objectively sucks, and the deal Fast signed in CAR would have been more than acceptable to bring him back, neither of these moves (or the rest of FA so far) are going to affect the Rangers long-term goals here of competing for a cup and having our window open up. If anything, it shows the team's commitment to building a team around the very young core that we have, at the right trajectory.

Is it really delusionions of grandeur to expect your team to sign talented players for bargain contracts?

Not a single person here has been talking about Krug or Hall or the like. You’d think that’s what’s happening with how some of you are scolding us lol
Right?

Like, nobody thought we were in on Hall or Pietrangelo or wanted to be given our needs.

I was hoping to be in on a slew of talented bottom 6 players and instead we lost one.

I don’t want to clog up the thread. But he did offer him money and it might of been more. Quickie wanted a new chapter it seems. And all power to him. Imagine picking up and moving after years of familiarities? I give a lot of credit to all people who can do that. I’m not patting myself on the back bc I’m back in nyc once a month but it takes a lot to leave friends and family for months at a time. And some people do it for years. Much respect to know what you have to do.

Retaining all of those guys just puts us right back where we were last year, which is a bad hockey team.

Are we competing or still rebuilding? Really getting mixed signals here.

Really? What about the additions of LAF, and Kravs? What about having Kakko in his second year? What about having Gauthier for a full year and possibly Barron? What about having Igor for the entire year instead of him playing 15-20 games? There are a lot of reasons to think this team will be better than last years team which was 1 point out of a playoff spot when the season ended.

The problem is the assumption that because he signed in Carolina, rather than with us, that management screwed up. We have no idea what the actual offer was from the Rangers, nor what Fast was thinking when he decided to sign with Carolina.
