But we're not doing that. One year into the rebuild we had one of our most aggressive offseasons ever.

And that was fine but now we're back to "let's just wait for things to develop." Then why did we make all those signings?

I think I already pointed out some pretty significant moves/additions that this years team will have that last years team did not. You have to wait for some things to develop though, yes.

Last year we made the big signings. This year we will make the big trades to round out the roster. But it takes time to get those trades done. The plan is moving along just fine.
Who are we trading?

Strome and ADA filed for arbitration which basically means they're Rangers next year.

What's going to be left to do?

Free agency is effectively over for us at this point and if we settle with Strome and ADA, we don't have viable trade chips to bring back anything significant.
I’m saying maybe it’s not a good idea to start spending money when you have 4 key players to pay and you don’t know what the amount is going to be.

Just because we signed a player to help right now doesn’t mean they expect them to have a impact only right now. IMO the bread man and kreider signings are not just for the next seasons but beyond that. When we are competing for the cup we are still going to need those players.

But also remember you are just a fan. JD and Gorts or just going to tell some fan the plan of the future just because it doesn’t make sense to them. If anything they have shown they like to keep things extremely close to the vest
Panarin turns 29 later this month.

You don't make that kind of commitment to a guy to not be serious until he's into his 30's.

It's just confusing any way you slice it.

Sounds like the Rangers had a good offer on the table, but Fast chose a different direction.

The triangle is a very nice place to live. Better weather than NY too. Lower taxes. Not hard to see the attraction.

Fast had maybe two more years here. The writing was on the wall.

What's stupid is thinking that Fast hates it here so much that it would take a $5 million offer to get him to not sign in motherf***ing Carolina for $2 million, and that GMs are powerless to do anything other than make monetary offers. GMs and Presidents, while were at it, are responsible for practically everything. If Fast wasn't happy here, I'm not convinced they adequately responded to that.
Wow it’s amazing how little you know about professional sports.

Why can't we sign those guys and then trade them?

Because signing those guys involves a negotiation as well, and the other team might prefer to do their own negotiations. What if they don't like the contract we give them, and then nix the deal?

No idea who is still available. Probably on CapFriendly.

I was being lazy, but just looked:

Soderberg, Haula, Sheary, Granlund, Janmark, Wilson, Caggulia, just from a quick skim. Definitely some guys still out there, should we want to go that route.

They could have locked him up before free agency, that probably would have responded to that... But he wasn't important enough. What if he took offense to that? I might. These things happen sometimes.

Then we're pretty much done

When the RFA's are settled, we're done doing anything significant. Those were the guys moving in a trade. We're not going to sign guys to trade them a week later.

I get that. But that doesn't mean they don't have value.
