the problem with the rumored shattenkirk deals is the length and the back end years. the salary for the next few years (especially with the cap space we have) is fine. and rumor is we are offering 4 years so we aren't giving him the back end years that would be the problem

obviously the rumors could be wrong and obviously JG could panic today and give him those extra years but i'm not sure why people are freaking out when all indication is that there are 2 possible outcomes 1)he signs somewhere else or 2)he comes here on a majorly discounted deal compared to what nj is offering

If those are the reported years, I just hope the rangers would bump it to 5 if he tells then it would close the deal.

All numbers I've seen indicate that Shattenkirk is nearly equal to or superior to McDonagh.

So there's that.

I'm waiting to see an argument for why he's bad defensively. I could be wrong, but I just haven't heard a coherent argument yet.

Even if he is mediocre defensively (Which I don't say he is), it's sill a huge improvement and worth investing in to have a good offensive guy on the top pairing while McDonagh can cover for him. He's trained for this for years ;)

FWIW it's Saturday and at no point has there even been a whisper about the Rangers being in on shattenkirk. So I'm assuming we aren't really trying and are letting him go to NJD/Buffalo/TB/Boston or another mystery team.

I just don't see any player leaving multiple years or significant money on the table for a team with Kevin Hayes as their 2C.

Just lost a lot of respect for Stevie Y. Always thought he did an underrated job in Tampa, most teams never come close to leaving the cellar and they did.

But it's just bad asset management to not work with Gorton on a retention deal instead of benefiting or whatever harm he can cause a rival and then taking a little hit himself paying more then 50% of Girardis contract.

Some people never realize that you cannot win a one man war. Better to always do any deal that benefit yourself, even if it helps out one other team. Unles of course it's a really special situation where two top rivals find themselves in that position.

Good point. Steve y also looks like a total moron right now if he commits $4M to bottom 10 league player

It's pretty obvious the Rangers have little interest in him.

Whaaaat's happening fellas? Just made the pot of coffee

I say we look Shattenkirk square and the face and say

"You refused Tampa once already, If you wanted to play for the devils or get max money the deal is there but you havent signed yet..."

*pause*

"We know this is where you want to be. Just sign the contract."

*walk out of room or hangup phone*

its been discussed for 12 months non-stop. he hasn't made a decision yet so they just aren't repeating the same things said 1000 times

I'll repeat what Kevin Weekes said last night on the NHL Network, which ODC already stated - there are three offers on the table, NYR, TB and NJ. NJ is for 7 years, TB and NYR for 4 years. AAV is relatively the same.

The possession stats are lopsided in Shattenkirk's favor too (that could however be due to system/team).

Why the hell would Yzerman pay us assets to take Girardi instead of just giving him money?

And FWIW, Shattenkirk said no to Tampa, not Tampa saying no to Shattenkirk. I can't wait for this **** show to be over.

And for the love of all things holy, please stop just posting HERO charts without using context. This is exactly what people did when people were clamoring for Patrick Wiercioch.

Im not saying Shatty is bad defensively but if he was as good as McD defensively he would get 8 mill and be a Norris candidate every year. McD didn't have his best year in 2017 but he is a top notch defender.

nothing to see here. i'm just an idiot...move along

If I had a dollar for every player that was going to "fix our power play" I'd have like 30 bucks. Our power play has been weak since the 90's 😂

This.

There is no magic bullet for them.

There's no creativity. Need a bunch of Zuccs and less Nash/Kreider types.

Although anyone who can shoot from the point and pass would be an upgrade over anyone we have had including McD
