IF someone can give me stats/reports, etc that tells me Shattenkirk is "bad defensively" please do, because every meaningful stat tells me absolutely other wise, and I've proven it over and over again to Ranger fans.

You haven't watched him play. He's not a 1st pair D, only behind a player like Pietrangelo. His defense game is actually reall good, given his type of game.

Yes, a right handed top defenseman has been missing from this team for years. We had Mcd and Skjei on the left before Yandle was a FA, we have nothing on the right, and haven't for years (depending on what Deangelo does).

not to mention he's better.
 
If I had a dollar for every player that was going to "fix our power play" I'd have like 30 bucks. Our power play has been weak since the 90's

His toughness, grit, and warrior ratings are super low.. We need to reproduce girardis production in those areas
 
"Rebuilding on the fly" is this years really bad buzzword term I guess. Takes over for the past few years "use this player as our own rental"

LOL. It's hilarious when people suggest Shattenkirk is bad defensively. Us Ranger fans wouldn't recognize good defense on the right side if it hit us in the face
 
Shattenkirk's PP is one big reason, but its not the only reason. He's elite puck possession, He suppresses shots, He can skate, He can move the puck, the PP is just a huge bonus, he's still a good player without that.
 
the problem with the rumored shattenkirk deals is the length and the back end years. the salary for the next few years (especially with the cap space we have) is fine. and rumor is we are offering 4 years so we aren't giving him the back end years that would be the problem

obviously the rumors could be wrong and obviously JG could panic today and give him those extra years but i'm not sure why people are freaking out when all indication is that there are 2 possible outcomes 1)he signs somewhere else or 2)he comes here on a majorly discounted deal compared to what nj is offering

All numbers I've seen indicate that Shattenkirk is nearly equal to or superior to McDonagh.

So there's that.

I'm waiting to see an argument for why he's bad defensively. I could be wrong, but I just haven't heard a coherent argument yet.

Hard to be that upset with a 4 year deal. I'll believe it when I see it though.
