I like the depth but am worried that Maurice’s propensity to not play yount players will be a problem. Deni needs an opportunjty

Deni needs AHL time. He’s played in a whopping 45 AHL games over the last 2 and a half years. I’m not sure what the rush is on this guy, especially when he hasn’t really showed much this far.

I’ve seen him a couple games in person in the AHL, and he was far from the most impactful/noticeable player.

Definitely at that price tag, he was paid accordingly for 2 years in SJ and then in OTT was handed another 2 year deal but his TOI was cut as the depth took over.

Sens fans saying he plays very disinterested and almost checked out but will put up points if carried by others.
Reminds me of Connolly, can check in for a portion of the game and produce and then checks out and becomes a liability on defensive side of things.

Only hope is he's ready for either league, AHL or NHL but not overly expecting a big return here.

Think Balcers was the key signing here, still RFA and has another level to hit, still hungry to make some money which should motivate him further.

I'd like to see a Balcers - Lundell - Reinhart/Duclair line if possible.
White is also an RFA in a year which I didn't realize at first. I like that he can't just walk.

So it looks like we’ll have a decent team after all. Much will depend on individual and team motivation (is coaching good and do players buy in).

We had Claude f***ing Giroux for the playoffs and couldn’t win a single game against the Bolts, so it’s likely not gonna be any worse.

My prediction is that Bob will make people shut up.

He was the worst signing ever. I didn't like that Panthers acquired him because I knew that it's impossible to keep him. So the team lost a 1st round draft pick for basically nothing. I also didn't like going all-in because the team was inexperienced in winning. It's a process that takes few years. In addition to that the player had attitude problems or was just a very weak loser. He didn't want to defend or play for the team and didn't show any winning mentality. I'll hate him 4ever.

All I think of when Del Zotto comes up

OMG...I never saw or read anything about this! And here I was going to comment that he probably was being viewed by Zito as an experienced D-man that could provide leadership and guidance to the Kid-core defenders in Charlotte...second thoughts on :eek3::eek3:that one for me:laugh:

He was one of the best our players in playoffs. What's wrong with his attitude?

Some of Y'all are eating the bait on that main board thread, I promise you Florida has nothing to worry about in the regular season (if that matters to you).

More taking value in Lundell, Knight and some of the 22-23 yrs old and under prospects progression/regression/stagnation(s) through the year.
Mainly Denisenko and Heponiemi, Gildon, Ludvig, Hutsko and Noel

Hope Bob has another great year which may up his value to other GMs, another year burned makes it easier to eventually move on from.

Balcers will be my guy to study and manifest a decent bottom 6 guy who stays on after this year.

The offense will take a hit, naturally, we're not gonna surprise opposition anymore with 4 goals a game but 3.5 GF and 2.6 GA would be fine if playoff fundamentals are being learned along the way

He had a couple of good games agains Washington but in general and especially against Tampa he didn't show anything what for example Lehkonen showed. When I watched the other teams play in playoffs the difference was huge. They were playing playoff hockey, whereas Panthers were just surfing on the ice. PP was more dangerous towards the own goal. I don't know whether Giroux was bad in defense or just sluggish because of the attitude.

For me, Giroux was a bit mis-cast with the Panthers...he seemed at his best with the Flyers because he was a driver of his line from C, not the case here. He was outstanding in the faceoff circle, again from the "Center" position.
I think in hindsight his acquisition was a bit of a reach by Mr. Zito, and a very expensive one at that!
Playoff hockey is as much about grit, and learning what it takes to win at that level as it is about skill;, and as we all saw, in truth they were not ready for that kind of move for Giroux!

Giroux could have played a bit better probably, but he was among the better players in playoffs. The team was hampered more by coaching inexperience than by player skill/desire.

In hindsight, Giroux should never have been acquired, of course, but at the time the euphoria of going for it won out, and I don’t really blame Zito. For once, we went for it, something almost every fan has been hoping for. We just fell short, and the price in retrospect is high.

Hopefully we learned a thing or two, I think the new players Zito’s signed are indicative of trying to make those learnings happen.

Was this ever in doubt? I love Marchment but Florida was on pace for 120 points before the TDL additions, losing him isn't going to be life changing. The question is, could it have been a better off-season? My answer would be yes. Florida is worse than before and because of the dumbass Chariot trade had no assets to add to Horny. That contract cost Florida a player/room and it's also going to cost Florida again because barring injury/a setback Duclair is also going to be moved for less than he's worth (probably has to be a western team, can't get full value for a player teams know you have to move). One stupid trade had an unfortunate trickle down.

My read from what Zito did last season was that
1) After Q was forced out, he did not trust Bruno to take the team to the next level…and thus named him only an interim HC.
2) As the team kept winning, I sense that this was unexpected to Zito because he didn’t have THAT much confidence in the players to mesh and for Bruno to keep the win streak going.
3) But as the TDL approached, Zito was maybe torn between going for it and staying put… not sure who or why exactly but the decision was made to go for it and see if Bruno actually did have what it takes.

All said and done, Zito may now be privately thinking, his first instinct was right but his hands were tied (and he obviously didn’t want Torts) so circumstances basically forced his hand into a damned if you do, damned if you don’t scenario, from which only a SCF appearance was a sufficient achievement.

Or I could be totally wrong.
