Agreed. I think we’re all underrating Balcers a little here. He’s got some nice skill and grit. Good shot too.
And the ability of our best players to make other players perform: Barkov and Verhaege made everyone else better; Tippett looked half decent next to Huberdeau and Bennett. Acciari was a legitimate scoring threat next to Huberdeau (and Trocheck).

I think the more reasonable concern is the 2PP given all the injuries and losses. I'm guessing the top PP is something like Barkov, Huberdeau, Reinhart, Bennett and Ekblad. That leaves the 2nd PP as

Verhaege-Lundell-Hornqvist
?-Montour

with White, Weegar or Forsling being the most likely fill in which is a bit underwhelming,

Tkachuk tells Flames he won't re-sign: Sources

Free Article

"In addition to making the Flames aware that he won’t be re-signing with the organization that picked him at No. 6 in the 2016 NHL Draft, Tkachuk has supplied them with a list of teams with whom he would agree to a long-term contract, according to multiple sources. Tkachuk does have some power over where he might land, given that teams likely won't want to pay as large of a trade price for him as a rental.

One source familiar with Tkachuk’s list said that St. Louis, Vegas, Florida, Nashville and Dallas are options. New Jersey and the New York Rangers are also among the other teams that have expressed interest in the past."

He's CLEARLY A f***ING PANTHER GAH DAMN IT

I just don’t see how we make it work (tkachuk). With him and gaudreau both out, acquiring let’s say Huberdeau doesn’t make sense. Why would Huberdeau re-sign there for any other reason than a potential 8th year? He very likely walks in free agency. We could do Huberdeau and Hornqvist and still afford to sign tkachuk, but I don’t think it makes sense for Calgary. They’d want Lundell. Young players who can grow there and maybe another roster player plus additional assets. Plus any team acquiring him will need to make space for up to 10per to re-sign him. I just don’t see it

I dont even know how we could realistically make that happen.
We've got an aging LW due for a raise next year.... Just saying.

Obviously it wouldn't be a huber to calgary trade. But... Maybe Huber in a three way?

99% chance this doesn't happen but I can dream

Calgary is pretty f***ed right now. First Gaudreau leaves and now Tkachuk.

If they still want to be competitive, Huberdeau makes sense but he won't re-sign there unless they bigly overpay him.

I'd wait to hear from Huberdeau's camp saying they wont sign a 12 million dollar deal before I believe he wont go there.

iirc Monahan will be gone too. They are about to go belly up in the standings.

Monahan hasn't been a huge factor for them in recent years. Lindholm took his spot. Their longest signed player right now is Blake Coleman.

The most realistic trade options we could offer come from the following pool:

Hornqvist (cap)
Verhaeghe
Reinhart
Duclair
Lundell
Sourdif
Ludvig
Gildon
Knight
Samoskevich

2025 2nd

I can’t see this happening without a first, however… weirder things have happened. I guess our first will be pretty low anyways. Hopefully we can find a way to make this happen.

I somewhat agree but I actually think Balcers and White aren’t terrible mkddle six forwards.

Balcers-Lundell-Reinhart could be a killer line.
They're fine and the team is fine but like I said before, you'd have liked the roster to be improved, not worsened. Floor is 1st round loss, ceiling is 2nd round loss imo. It just feels like a similar team to the past 2 seasons.

The above are our 19 forwards of interest (as I see it).
Duclair is on LTIR.
Denisenko and Levtchi are exempt from waivers and will start in the AHL.
Everybody with a cap hit above $1.05m will carry a cap penalty even if they did clear waivers.
Lundell is on an ELC, but obviously he's not competing for a spot.
If we didn't waive Thornton, then we aren't waiving Staal.

That leaves us with 11 guarantees and 3 spots remaining for 5 guys.

Lomberg, Balcers, Heponiemi, Mayhew, and Tierney.

I could see any of these guys being claimed on waivers, but Tierney and Mayhew are my picks to be dropped.

I kind of disagree on the ceiling: we didn't adjust in the playoffs and lost last season. I'm optimistic that this team is more balanced. We would be relying on another step from Lundell and a healthy Barkov to make up for losing Marchment and Giroux.

I find Staal for Chiarot to not be a big loss, especially given expected usage.

Maybe we cans see Maurice is the X-factor to be honest. If he can fix the giant systematic holes from last year, we should be fine

Oh look the Barkov injured excuse is coming out again.

And Maurice is not going to be an X factor. Such a meh hiring. Surprised so many are so optimistic about him. Must be the offseason! haha
