So you’re a Cody Eakin lover?
No, there is only one red-head in my heart right now :naughty:

I’m just hoping Gorton doesn’t have the same issue as Sather with never having a drafted player surpass 60 points in a season.

Stepan was on pace for it during the shortened season, but we still haven’t done it over a full 82 games. Could be a talent issue, but it could also be an ice time issue.

With the exception of Cherepanov, Sather never drafted forwards that had the offensive potential of Chytil & Kravtsov.

Hopefully one or both of those guys pans out for us.

I agree that we speak of him as if he was a more senior prospect, but I disagree with the characterization of his year as "decent," by any stretch. He had a 12-game span where he scored 7 goals and 2 assists. Basically half of his total production came in 20% of the season--and that was December, so it's not like it was towards the end of the year and things were finally clicking. He had a ****ty year, and worse, when I watched (granted only 4-5 times all year), he was completely unnoticeable on the ice. He absolutely deserves more time before anyone writes him off. But last year, it was bad.

When I saw him, albeit for only 2 games, he was one of the more noticeable Wolfpack forwards on the ice.

I don't want to misrepresent that I think there's a ton of work he's gotta do. But still... that streak is a glimmer. People like comparing him to James Neal as far as tools. Neal, in his D+3 season as a 1st year pro had 4 more goals in 3 more games than Gropp. Yes, a lot more assists... and granted that Neal basically made the Stars out of camp the next season and scored 24 goals there. I don't expect anything from Gropp, in the long run, like I don't expect anything from most prospects. If he takes steps forward, his ceiling is still a 15-20 goal guy in the NHL. But... he didn't even rank in our prospect poll and I don't really think, at this point, that guys like Meskanen and Lindqvist are really ahead of him.* And certainly not Fontaine. It's completely a perception thing right now. Disappointment in not picking Sprong. Disappointment in the return on Hagelin. Concerns that he was the product of Barzal moreso than a contributor. And then add on that he didn't have a great training camp followed by a strong season last year. I'm skeptical too, of course... but I don't see the reason to write him off just yet.

*That could all change in as short of a time as 2 months.

It’s not even August yet. And McLeod is likely going to be in Hartford most of the year.

Maybe you can enlighten me as to why Hartnell would play for a rebuilding team though......
Yes. Exactly. I don’t see any reason to discuss McLeod outside the Hartford thread. His situation is unique. I guess the conversation was like Gorton said “we like you and see you as a good influence. We’d like to have you play in Hartford as something of a player-coach. You’ll get to play a few games at MSG if possible at the end of the season. You can go out on your own terms. And we’re open to helping you launch your coaching career next season.
It’s apples an oranges with Hartnell or any of the others. And it’s not going to effect the parent club at all. Including the salary cap.
My opinion.

I am pretty sure it was reported that our list was Pettersson, Glass, Andersson, Suzuki, Mittelstadt. I have that memorized because i like to point out that we had Suzuki over Mittelstadt also. The thing is it will be hard to talk to Mittelstadt lovers because he will be playing with Eichel and Dahlin so his numbers will probably be better than all of these kids except maybe Pettersson. Which by their professional "eye tests" will mean that he is the superior player.

More than a decade after being drafted, and having traded for them, you can't seriously compare that to the Cup winning teams who have built their team through the draft. We also had Hamrlik in 2013. Should we count him as well? In that case, we had 2 "elite stars" in 2013
It's been 12 years since Backstrom was drafted and longer for Ovechkin. 13 years for Crosby, longer for Malkin and Fleury. 12 years for Kessel. Staal both counts as a top 5 pick winning a cup and doesn't?

The debate is kind of silly. No one is denying the fact that you need elite talent to win a cup. Or that it is more easily acquired the higher, and more frequently, you draft. But there is more than one way to skin a cat. The Kucherovs and Points drop. Yakupovs bust. Then you find your Lundqvists, Datsyuks and Zetterbergs in the 7th.

This team is going to stink whether anyone likes it or not. Hopefully we aren't burned by the lottery odds. Its 5 months into a rebuild. Assets are being acquired, including cap space. Let's see where this goes.

This is one of the most intellectually dishonest arguments I've seen on here. You are better than this.
It’s actually not. Do you guarantee that the Rangers will draft the next Crosby or Malkin and how long it would take for them to get there?

Smith reportedly lost 15 pounds.

Get ready for the "best shape of my life" season to begin soon.

Jesus Christ, Sam Rosen is going to spam that line harder than Hossa is strong along the boards, Hayes lost 20lbs in the offseason, and Those aren’t boos they’re Pruuuus!

Kill me now.

What I can say from personal experience is, if you’re losing weight a year or two after getting married, then all is doomed. :ghost3:

Way to completely miss the point - multiple top 5 picks in the lineup doesn't automatically convey Lord Stanley to the fielding team. Hamrlik was never elite. Staal and Nash were.

And you also missed the point. No one ever said multiple top 5 picks automatically equals winning the Stanley Cup.
