Yeah I understand the rush that some of us have to fill that spot, but the smart play IMO would be to wait things out and see what we actually have with the players who are already here (short of getting a deal that you just can't pass up.)

Also, you never know who will become available within the next year, there may be a better deal to be had later.

I think I'm also higher on Duchene than you. I'm not giving up Skjei for him, but any other of our other young D's + a forward? I think that I would surely do.

yeah ' we're still in a win no mode that we got shatty with space from th Girardi buyuout.. you think A that GMJG is looking for a big move for the top6? or B he whould be able to make a deal around? Bucause as i See it wer're set in what we got going forwrod aside from some minor signings here or there,. If we would land a top 6 C that whoul put us in the mix for sure

Fisher and Ribeiro were the only 2 FA centers left who had or were on pace for at least 40 points. Would you even consider them 2Cs or just good 3Cs? I don't see much else aside from the mentioned guys I'd consider for a 3C role (most of the remainder looked to be a bit lackluster defensively)

Ribeiro had an unfortunate relapse and looks like his playing days are done. I don't see Fisher signing anywhere but Nashville. Cullen is good, but he's just getting old.

Grigorenko might've been a 3C option, but he left for the KHL.

If a 3C is on the shopping list, time for JG to pull a rabbit out of his hat.

Gorton can find a 3c IMO no problem. its Hayes as the 2 that's a bit scary.

Anybody recently post what the potential lineup could look like without 2C being filled... anybody else not into the idea of having Hayes or Miller center the 2nd line or is it just me?

I understand the hesitation to not sacrifice the future, but at the same time we have to optimize the current window we have (Mac, Shatty, Nash, Hank, Zucc) their window is prob 2/3Y max (- Nash unless he comes back on a 2Y cheap deal) but either way I think you have to look at that 1C hole and know that filling it would put you right back in the mix with Pittsburgh. Additionally, Montreal took a step back, Washington I think might regress. Take another last shot.

Grigorenko hasn't officially signed yet. His announcement is coming tomorrow and it's between Moscow and 2 NHL teams

A lot of people aren't really enamored with that idea, but not sure what Gorton can do about it.

I hear you.
Of those players listed I couldn't see Hank being moved at all. He's going up the rafters when its all said and done.
McD... if he's moved they have to move him for someone like Barkov.
Shatty...not sure how or why he would be moved within the next 4 years unless things go upside down.
Nash... if he could be moved for a good prospect and picks then all the better.
Zucc... thats where a player like Galchenyuk could be had. I'd do that and resign Zucc in 2 years and put him on the 3rd line, lol.

No I'm saying the opposite. These guys have a window here, so you need to ADD to them if you want to take a shot with the 3Y window you have.

Trying to think up some targets at center, having a pretty tough time thinking of who could even potentially be available. What I've got so far for realistic targets:

Tyler Bozak (TOR), Calle Jarnkrok (NSH), Sam Bennett (CGY), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (EDM), Jussi Jokinin (UFA), Nick Bjugstad (FLA), Trevor Lewis (LAK), Vladislav Namestnikov (TBL; has mostly played wing at the NHL level but was drafted a center)

Bigger, likely unavailable/un-affordable names:

David Krejci (BOS), Matt Duchene (COL), Sam Reinhart (BUF), Nazem Kadri (TOR)

I really hope Gorton has something up his sleeves, because, to me, most of these names are unappealing. I'd love to get either of Kadri or Reinhart, but they would probably cost us Brady Skjei, and I have no interest in moving him unless it's for MacKinnon or someone like that. I'd be pretty happy with Jarnkrok in a bottom-6 role, he's excellent defensively and can add a bit of offense. Namestnikov is a guy I think has untapped potential who could use a change of scenery.

IMO don't see Jarnkrok being available. Not personally interested in Bjugstad or Lewis either. Doubt we trade for Bozak.

Ahh. Gotcha. Well, that window is definitely hinging on solving the center position. Not many options left... take a flyer and cross your fingers on someone like Jokinen or somehow get creative via trade.

That's why I think it's ok to take a gamble and move an asset or 2 for a 1C.

I would not mind signing Grigorenko to a 2 year deal. I think he's a player that would benefit from being in an environment like NY.

I don't think Grigorenko makes the Rangers better. It's an unnecessary risk of a roster spot.

I keep seeing stuff on the internet / twitter that Kovy wants to come to the Rangers.

Short of moving Nash and/or Staal, I don't see how we could fit Kovy's cap hit.

As far as lines go, it's a bit hard to predict. Do KBZ get reunited? Or does Kreider and Zibby get Nash and Buchnevich plays with Vesey/Hayes, leaving Grabner with Miller and Zuccarello?

Fourth line will be some amalgamation of Puempel, Nieves, Jensen, etc. until Fast gets back.

It really wouldn't surprise me if Bereglazov and DeAngelo start in the AHL and we get something Staal-Shattenkirk, Skjei-Smith, and McDonagh-Holden.

Right now the center depth is Zibanejad, Hayes, Miller, Nieves until proven other wise.

That is worse than everyone other than Vegas and New Jersey.
