Trying to think up some targets at center, having a pretty tough time thinking of who could even potentially be available. What I've got so far for realistic targets:

Tyler Bozak (TOR), Calle Jarnkrok (NSH), Sam Bennett (CGY), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (EDM), Jussi Jokinin (UFA), Nick Bjugstad (FLA), Trevor Lewis (LAK), Vladislav Namestnikov (TBL; has mostly played wing at the NHL level but was drafted a center)

Bigger, likely unavailable/un-affordable names:

David Krejci (BOS), Matt Duchene (COL), Sam Reinhart (BUF), Nazem Kadri (TOR)

I really hope Gorton has something up his sleeves, because, to me, most of these names are unappealing. I'd love to get either of Kadri or Reinhart, but they would probably cost us Brady Skjei, and I have no interest in moving him unless it's for MacKinnon or someone like that. I'd be pretty happy with Jarnkrok in a bottom-6 role, he's excellent defensively and can add a bit of offense. Namestnikov is a guy I think has untapped potential who could use a change of scenery.

I've been playing this game for a few days now. I keep coming to 2 players I really would want and could make a case could be moved; Duchene and ROR. I can't see Krejci being moved, Reinhart, I think they'd shed ROR's $ before moving him, Kadri is interesting but Toronto needs him to stay competitive.

Anisimov or Anthanasiou?

If Anthanasiou is even remotely available Gorton should be on that like crazy.

Athanasiou, younger and has the potential to be a far more dynamic player

Jarnkrok would be a good target. Good #3C. Keeps Miller on the wing.

Jarnkrok was protected by Nashville and is on a fantastic contract long-term. It'd take a severe over-payment to get him.

Gorton did say he's been in talks with teams about centers, so lets see what he can do.. if he can replace Stepan with a legit Stepan like replacement we should just make him exec of the year.

If he could get rid of Staal? build a statue.

TB - expiring contract; whatever player
CJ - good idea, recently extended, tough to get
SB - will cost a lot. Can he do a pull up yet? Probably have to start with
Buchnevich
RNH - too much salary too much term
JJ - probably finished.
NB - too much term, only if FLA takes Staal but still bad. BFF with McDonagh
TL - meh
VN - good target, but is he a center? No more tweeners
DK - too much salary too much term
MD - perfect addition bad trading partners.
SR - start with Buchnevich. Does Buffalo really want to move?
NK - Babcock favorite. Will probably cost too much.

Agreed and agreed.

I keep going back to his comments about centers and how he's in talks with many teams. He has a few plans for some guys and I'm sure he's probably waiting to see where all the UFA's land (although it's basically dry now) who's even left?

I still think Joe Sakic will come back to reality. All these GM's aren't giving up a legit young top 4 fwd + a high end prospect + picks for a guy who is only signed for 2Y. That's absurd.

That's where you get creative and move a Forward for that D that Sakic apparently wants, and maybe add him to Graves/Bereglazov/Pionk and a high pick?

The question becomes, who here actually thinks Duchene can return to that 60+ point forward?..

I've proposed that strategy before. I'm sure there's a team out there that could use a Kevin Hayes, Nick Holden, or a JT Miller that could swing us value for Duchene.

I would gladly give a Buchnevich headlined package for Duchene. He would fly on this team. Duchene only being signed for the Rangers actually helps them because that's when they will need the cap space to resign McDonagh.

With better line mates and a better locker room I think he is a lock to get there. Especially in the Eastern Conference.

Then Gorton should explore every avenue to find a way to get a match for what Sakic wants (within reason).

I thought they wanted a young defenseman, that doesn't fit Buchnevich. I would hate to lose a talent like buchnevich. :/

On a line with Nash and CK, I think he can hit 75-80. As much as I dislike AV, his system is perfect for him. It's just get the puck and go! You would see lots of aggressive counter punch plays.

I would be very weary giving up Buchnevich. His ceiling is pretty high.

If that were the case, I'd give up Skjei and I wouldn't even think twice. I simply don't think he has that in him (He never did).

Rangers would also need to A. send salary the other way back to Colorado or B. do it in a separate trade in order to be able to afford Duchene.

I think there's a decent chance of him putting up 70 here.

Although, I wouldn't even consider moving Buchnevich for Duchene. Projections aside, he's still a player who had 40 points last year, and a player who's contract is up in two years. In no universe should the Rangers be trading Buchnevich for a player like that.

I know the Rangers have said they were high on DeAngelo, but with both Smith and Shattenkirk signed for the next 4 years, plus a few potential Botton pair RD-men ready to go, do they look to move him as part of a package for a 1/2C?

Which is why that asking price is ABSURD.

I think something fair would be:

good young roster player + second tier prospect + a 2nd round pick
OR
good young roster player + 2 picks
OR
good prospect + a 2nd and 3rd round pick

Something along that sort of price is fair.
