No way Gorton is taking just the Ryan contract to help facilitate a trade between OTT and TB. The Rangers would have to get something incredible to make that trade.

Stevie Y could be looking to give Karlsson the 'TB special' but he might not want anything to do with it. They'd have to match or surpass Doughty's contract.

Just having some fun....

To Ottawa.. Hayes Tampa 2nd.
To Tampa ek65
To nyr conditions removed from first. Bobby Ryan, Johnson, foote, raddysh

To OTT - Sergachev, Pionk/ADA, Spooner, Raddysh/Foote and 2019 TB 1st*
To TB - Karlsson, Buchnevich, Vesey? and 2019 TB 2nd.
To NYR - Ryan and Kucherov

A couple of my thoughts because no one is telling me anything.

I could see Ottawa insisting on two things...getting a first this year (optics) and moving Ryan in any deal. The Rangers can accommodate both of those needs for Tampa, no one else can. The price can and should be high but if Tampa is facilitating this, their payment to Ottawa would be less. Certainly an interesting chess game.

And has Karlsson actually agreed to a contract extension with Tampa? Could there be a hangup there?

This is pretty interesting. Didn’t really consider the fact that TB can’t trade a 1st/2nd for Karlsson without getting the NYR involved since both are conditionally owned by the NYR. One good reason why it would make a ton of sense to speculate the NYR are involved here.

I think the piece with the 1st rounder might be bang on, I can’t see the rangers taking on Ryan’s contract.

They’d basically need to be compensated by receiving the entire return for EK from Tampa for that to make any sense.

The Bolts were supposed to be a dominant force after getting McDonagh. It's hockey and nothing is for certain no matter how much you stack your roster. It's not like basketball where 2 or 3 guys dominate 80% of the game.
Exactly, and the Caps had supposedly taken a step back. No one thought they'd win the division, let alone the Cup. There are no givens.

Callahan won’t prevent the Rangers from bringing in Panarin.
Maybe, maybe not. What if it prevents them from bringing in another free agent that could persuade Panarin to sign for a team in a rebuild? Panarin isn't in the bag. The Rangers will need all the help they can. Do you know who wont get Panarin interested in coming to the Rangers? Callahan

If the rangers need to persuade panarin to come to NY by signing another big ticket ufa then I hope they don’t get panarin

Something tells me that won’t happen though.

I’m pretty sure Panarin has made it known NY is one of the places he’s targeting in free agency.

I don’t understand why Ottawa wants to move the ryan deal if they’re rebuilding anyway. He’s a fat deal to keep on the books so you can hit the floor easily without giving out more contracts

They need fake cap $, they don't want to pay out an actual contract

to TB: unrestricted EK + Ryan = 13.75 incoming
less similar slightly less outgoing

to Sens: Staal [half] + Smith + Foote + = 8ish
less 18ish = 10m cap savings

to NYR: TB 2019 upgraded to 1st, also 2020 1st ---
Miller, Point, MacArthur, Callahan = around 17.5
less 7m ish = 10.5 cap hit

If JT is welcomed back post AV that is an option, if not, we have a valued trade chip, plus Point, + did not have to take Ryan + picks

if there is a 3 way, this is what we should press for

Why? The Rangers have cap room and this is a potentially talented FA class. It's not an insult. I think the front office says to Panarin and let's say Seguin we want to build around the two of you, then that's a hell of a sales pitch. Nothing wrong with that

They have the extra space and can get an additional asset or 2 by using said space to take on some salary.

This is exactly what they should be doing. Toronto did this when they were in the same position we are.

This is coming from someone who hates Callahan and would rather not see him wear the Rangers jersey again.

Toronto did it right, they took on 3 contracts that had 2-3 years, and that stripped ottawa of contracts that they needed to get out of. It had a benefit for both teams.

Rangers need to be doing this, but the problem is there aren't many a) cap strapped teams that b) have short term (1-2 year contracts) and are c) willing to give up a decent asset to get out of that contract, and d) are willing to trade with the rangers.

You need all 4 of those components for this to work. Trying to mix Karlsson into that, then throw in the Bobby Ryan Disaster, and then Callahan being in Tampa's way, and you have a major headache that has so many moving parts that it's nearly impossible for this to succeed unless every single little piece is set up properly.
