Yamamoto. I dont think the Oilers would trade a player they just picked and is in a position of need in the organization.

I honestly think poolparty will be a bust. By bust I mean not matching expectations of a player drafted #4 overall.
I might be biased but I'm happy with either bc I def think we need another right handed shot desperately

I just dont see it, does he make us a contender, when we give him 11 mil per do we have cap space to give raises? grab another forward or center and still with Staal, Smith, Belesky, Girardi's 3.6 mil cap hit for the buyout? I just dont see how you can ice a competitive team against the leagues best who dont have these horrible contracts all while using UFA contracts. Trust me I love Karlsson as much as anybody but he isnt the answer at this point in time imo

They have the cap space this year and into the future. It's a piece that could help when the kids are ready to be solid NHL contributors.

Maybe this summer it doesn't make sense to add that piece to supplement the young kids. May be its next summer with Panarin or the following summer with Hall.

Your not going to find a dman like Karlsson available in UFA the next few offseasons and likely you won't find them available by trade unless you pay through the nose.

I agree. Don’t think Poolparty is worth the difference between what we’d get for Zucc straight up and what we’d get for Zucc and also taking on Lucic’s contract.

Dont get your Hope's up. I dont have any inside information but I highly doubt they make the move for Karlsson. Not saying they shouldn't but just dont see Gorton pulling the trigger.

I do see them taking on a contract ala Spezza or Callahan and getting assets back.

Zuccarello is worth the 1st or puljujarvi alone. So Lucic only comes with the other? No. Not enough. No one else is taking him on. Just trade Zuccarello elsewhere and keep the cap. Spezza would be 1 year and you can flip him for more assets.

That's what we need to focus on, short term commitments that can turn into more assets. Lucic is a sunk and deteriorating cost that will be a buyout eventually or a 7th rounder at the deadline. Pay me for the opportunity cost, Edmonton. You will prevent us from adding these flips for years. Or keep his intangibles and your perennial lottery pick.

I don’t think trading for Karlsson is about “propping up the roster”, I think it’s about Karlsson being a top-5 player in the league and a perennial Norris/Hart candidate. The chances we draft someone of that caliber are slim to none. The opportunity to get a player of Karlsson’s caliber via trade is arguably once in a lifetime. So, I think the Rangers would have interest regardless of whether we’re “rebuilding” or “contending”.

"Once in a lifetime." Until a couple years from now. Lol

Why would he do the hypothetical, unless he is hedging his past comments? Especially, given how adamant about NYR not being involved.

Because he needed material for an article?

I think the questions that he’s raising are fair and something we’ve been discussing on these boards for a few weeks

I understand what your saying, but how many can you name in the last ten years that have been on or close to Karlsson’s level.

EK is certainly at the top of the list. My point continues to be that you don't add top dollar UFAs until you are a team on the rise. Why would we waste a couple of his peak years when we won't be winning? Let's bottom out before we start talking about signing all star UFA who are already at the peak of their careers.

I'm sure Zucc wouldn't mind playing with McDavid, a very young captain who could use some advice from a veteran leader

who is poolparty? EDIT: Puljujarvi

according to Mckenzie, Trouba is looking to sign at  $8 per
i doubt we get into this situation but giving Trouba lots of $ on a 1 year contract so we can flip him at the TDL (even retain 50%)?

EDIT2: oops, Trouba is RFA. I got him confused with Enstrom who is an UFA
