I agree that Holden will be involved in a trade for a center if he is traded this offseason. If not, trade him for a draft pick and we'll use that to figure out our center situation.
I say we should just wait it out though. I really like how this team is built (outside of needing a center). Anderson seems capable of coming in and making the team. He's pretty close to being NHL ready and might be able to take the 4C spot and maybe move up to 3C as the season goes along. As stated, Pittsburgh and Washington have lost some depth and now our D core is much stronger.
I don't see any UFAs that are worth it right now as anything more than a 4C. There are many intriguing RFAs, but I don't see any that won't be signed by their current teams (well, at least the guys we'd be interested in)
Duchene is a long shot but the longer Sakic waits, the better our chances are of fleecing them. Besides, there is always the outside chance Sakic could be fired. Again this is unlikely, but the longer they wait the more desperate they might get to unload him, especially if things are ugly to start the season.
Most likely, the best option as stated would be to play this season out, and then wait for the deadline to approach and make our move for a center then. A lot can change over the course of an NHL season, and you never know who might end up available. It also will give time for our prospects to develop further and maybe increase their trade value by this point.
Our team right now is much stronger than last year's team, let's see how things go and then make our move.
