I think Bozak would be a real good option. pretty much another Stepan, but better on face offs and possession, pretty sure he can PK too. UFA to be, so Leafs might want to get something for him?. Hell can we get Hyman too?... what would it take for both?

Only players left I would be interested in are either Jokinen or Grigorenko to hopefully solve the 2C hole and Yakupov to take a flyer on.
Haven't seen a lot of Grigorenko and don't know his past but maybe an environment like NY might help him flourish. When he was drafted it was assumed he would develop into a gifted top line offensive center. Maybe put him on a line with Butch and Krieder and they catch lightning in a bottle.
Take a 1 year flyer on Yakupov... perhaps having a few fellow russians on the team can bring out the best in all of them.
 
Sign Mikhail Grigorenko. Klein retires. Trade Nick Holden for Tyler Bozak. Trade Marc Staal to a cap floor team for a bag of pucks. Extend Ziba and Fast.

Jokinen is 1 year removed from a 60-point season, can PK, play 16+ minutes, good possession numbers, and has decent FO % when he needed to take draws.

I wouldn't mind him as 3C on a cheap 1 or 2 year deal.

i'm telling you...after seeing the contracts that Price, Kuznetsov, Thornton and Marleau got...and the trade that the caps made with the Devils...I firmly believe you can get a top 6 center from with holden and staal..

i cant believe how stupid NHL GMs are.

I would CRUCIFY JG for signing literally ANY of those contracts.
 
A few things. As some have already said, Johansson is a winger, not a C.

On a 1 year deal, 8 million for Thornton is fine. The Marleau deal actually isn't bad either. Should have been 2 years not 3 though.

The really bad deals were Fowler and Price. Yikes :laugh: .

Caps are so screwed. So, so screwed.
 
Spoke to boo Nieves today And will be given a huge chance to make this team.. he is stoked for camp. And feels his speed will be his biggest asset

I've always been a proponent for trades over Free Agency, just as a general rule. I think the assets you have to give up hurt less in the long run than the bad contract you'll most likely ink in July. Find a package you're a willing to give up, put the line out there, and take the best player you can get back.

Any idea who is flanking him, especially while Fast is hurt? Puempel (meh) and....I don't know?
 
What the hell is going on right now? It seems like everyone is ok with blowing money? I feel like im one of the guys prior to the blow up in the big short.... They're purposely loading up fat contracts because they know another lockout and set of compliance buyouts is coming up..

Not even Shattenkirk.. Look at some of these other D man. They Smith contract is what is probably the closest to market value for these level guys but alzner is hella over paid.

I'm an economics graduate and the best way i can attempt to explain it is that the teams perception of risk in contracts is being effected enough for there to be massive overpayments while teams are loading up further on these soon to be Ultra-Mega-Massive Deals(Mcdavid, Draisitl, Matthews)
 
Bozak sucks and is nothing like Stepan. Glorified 3C that looks good because of Babcock.

Sign Grigorenko and Yak. All Ruskies line with Buch

If Boo makes the squad, I'd assume Grabs or Vesey on the left, and whoever impresses @ camp and in pre-season will get the start on the right until Fast is healthy.

I think Schneider can play RW well, so he has a shot. Of course, Jensen plays RW, too. Maybe Lettieri will have a crazy camp and make it...and he's a RH shot too (not that it matters that much). Hard to tell at this point...
