Yeah Gorton was able to really solve this teams problems without killing the team financially. A lot of these deals are like WTF.
Don't see why we can't bring him along slowly, he's 21. Not to mention that Smith would work perfectly fine on the third pairing.
I don't think they need him to play top 4.
Plus if AV ever wises up these guys are all interchangeable. Don't feel comfortable with Shattenkirk defending a lead with a minute left? Bump Smith up with McDonagh. Need a goal late in the game? Move DeAngelo up with Skjei.
He'll get his time on the PP and a RH puck rushing defenseman is always going to hold value. I really hope he wises up because he can bring tremendous value to this team, even in a bottom pairing role.
$8M AAV. Wow.
$8M AAV. Wow.
Maybe if the Rangers make it clear to AV that Staal is the #5 here (if not the #6) he would waive?.. lol
I'm just thinking who could honestly be used for a center..
This is just insane, why are GMs giving out these ridiculous deals?

At least its only a year for Thornton. Sharks have space.
Unless you want to tear apart the defense before it even has a chance to do anything, a winger+?
I think they'll either sign Jokinen/Gigorenko to a 1 year deal or roll with Miller down the middle next year and look to figure the C position out later in the season.
I wouldn't push ADA out the door until we really figure out what we have there. The ability to ice a guy on each pairing who can skate the puck out of trouble would be nice.
I mean Gorton literally listed McDonagh, Skjei, Shattenkirk, and Smith as his too-4 dmen in his press conference yesterday
Probably because NHL GMs aren't the perfect embodiment of player evaluation like some people think they are.
The next CBA is going to be short for Connor Bargaining Agreement. McDavid is going to the upper ceiling of most contracts by $1,000,000 to $2,000,000 all because of his $13,250,000 AAV.
going to be interesting to see what Gorton does about the center position.. Does he move Stepan if he thought Shattenkirk was going to come here?.

I thought freeing up the cap space was one of the reasons KS was able to come here.
