Don't see why we can't bring him along slowly, he's 21. Not to mention that Smith would work perfectly fine on the third pairing.

So, wait, if the Rangers get a 2nd line center, that doesn't mean that things have changed for Andersson and Chytil? What kind of voodoo is this?

I don't think they need him to play top 4.

Plus if AV ever wises up these guys are all interchangeable. Don't feel comfortable with Shattenkirk defending a lead with a minute left? Bump Smith up with McDonagh. Need a goal late in the game? Move DeAngelo up with Skjei.

He'll get his time on the PP and a RH puck rushing defenseman is always going to hold value. I really hope he wises up because he can bring tremendous value to this team, even in a bottom pairing role.

I'm just thinking who could honestly be used for a center..

The Salary cap is ****ing everybody up. But then again, I wouldn't want it to be like the NBA where only 3 teams are any good.

I always said a 1 year deal is never a bad option...

but 8M for a 38 year old coming off a torn acl?...

Woof

Maybe if the Rangers make it clear to AV that Staal is the #5 here (if not the #6) he would waive?.. lol

I'm pretty sure they already told him last year coming into this season he would have a much more limited role. Maybe if they did ask him to waive he would now but they haven't found a deal yet to ask him to waive.

At least its only a year for Thornton. Sharks have space.

Unless you want to tear apart the defense before it even has a chance to do anything, a winger+?

I think they'll either sign Jokinen/Gigorenko to a 1 year deal or roll with Miller down the middle next year and look to figure the C position out later in the season.

I wouldn't push ADA out the door until we really figure out what we have there. The ability to ice a guy on each pairing who can skate the puck out of trouble would be nice.

The next CBA is going to be short for Connor Bargaining Agreement. McDavid is going to the upper ceiling of most contracts by $1,000,000 to $2,000,000 all because of his $13,250,000 AAV.

I mean Gorton literally listed McDonagh, Skjei, Shattenkirk, and Smith as his too-4 dmen in his press conference yesterday

going to be interesting to see what Gorton does about the center position.. Does he move Stepan if he thought Shattenkirk was going to come here?.

Edmonton can't wait to pay him either. They can't wait. A bit shocking really.

Gorton seems high on ADA. If we pencil Andersson in for next year and for him to continue to improve, I don't see Gorton being hasty with moves this off season to plug up C.

$8m for Thornton is kind of nuts but they have the space this year and still have about $10m in space to round out there roster.
Even for Toronto I don't think they'll be in huge cap trouble until the last year of the Marleau deal when Marner and Matthews need a raise. They'll likely get ride of 1 of JVR or Bozak (or Kadri) before then, but they should be ok
