Yes. Bozak has a modified ntc, slightly lower cap than kadri ($4.2 v $4.5). Bozak has 1 year left and kadri has 5.

For the leafs, it might be more attractive to trade kadri instead. 2nd line center but with Marleau coming in, presumably as a wing, and Shoshnikov ready for full time nhl wing duties, it might be time to put Nylander at center on the 2nd. Bozak can come off the books right before some expensive contracts are signed with Matthews and Nylander.

If we sent zuccarello it's an even cap swap but they shed years. And zucc is off their books with those new contracts kicking in.

Zucc for Kadri is an interesting proposal. Kadri has a NTC kicking in next year so they might want to dump him Stepan-style haha.

That proposal above wasn't serious, anyone have any idea what it might take to get Teravainen from Carolina?

Andersson has to make it as a center. If he cannot crack the team as a center then he should stay in the SEL and continue to develop

I would offer Hayes and a pick before offering Zucc for Kadri. I don't think they have a need for Zucc and they certainly can't afford to play him on the 3rd line. Hayes is an RFA after next season, they can negotiate a new contract and will probably be just under what Kadri is getting now and seems to fit with the rebuild.

Wow, 3 years, 6M+ per for Marleau

That's, uh, steep

Many fans are surprised including me but all that tells me is that teams are still looking for real offensive talent and they will pay for it even if its declining.

I see him taking nylander's spot on the 1st line but maybe you are right. Problem is we open another center hole. Matthews, Nylander, Bozak, Moore down the middle. Do they need Hayes.

They are $2m over the cap right now, need another left d. Holden might work. Lightning striking twice with another ranger cast off on d? We would have to add. We could take back Fehr for the 4th and pk. I know he's nearing the end.

I could part with Miller here as well.

Maybe they use their own advance stats like yzerman and would do Staal at 50% retained and Zucc or Holden.

Whether you love or hate Nash I think it is very odd that we have not heard his name mentioned at all if only because of his contract situation (1year/7.8mill). After losing Stepan and Girardi I'm leaning towards keeping him so we have some continuity going in to next season but I still thought we might hear a rumor or two from the media.

Well, I wouldn't be surprised if he is traded with 50% retained (It's only 1 season and it maximizes his value).

I wouldn't be surprised either by that kind of trade by why not a single rumor? Feels suspicious :D

No news could be good news with Gorton. A lot of stuff comes out of left field. He may have something on the backburner if we need some space for another deal. Or maybe it depends on free agency. For instance, if Dallas misses on Radulov they might be inclined to pick up Nash.

Toronto can't afford to have any injuries on their defense. Having said that, I can't say they'll have any interest on Staal.
Yeah, I think Bozak will be dealt and think it would be easier to get than Kadri but at the same time I would think they would entertain the idea of moving more salary in Kadri and getting something in return like Hayes+ than not getting as much in return for an expiring Bozak. Not knocking Bozak but not sold on him as being a long term solution to center the 2nd line.

With Marleau going to the Leafs, any chance of making a run at Jumbo Joe on the cheap? Maybe a 1-2 year deal for $3-4 million per? Klein would definitely have to retire but:

Kreider-Zibanejad-Zuccarello
Nash-Thornton-Buchnevich
Vesey-Hayes-Miller
Grabner-Andersson/Nieves-Fast

McDonagh-Shattenkirk
Skjei-Smith
Staal-Bereglazov/Pionk

Lundqvist
Pavelec

That Marleau contract is brutal..

Almost the same contract as Shattenkirk who's 10 years younger and put up more points as a defenseman than Marleau last season lol.

22 and he plays 1st line wing or center? $2.85m, that could cost us big. I don't watch enough so I don't know their needs.

Yeah, OTOH he is somewhat slow and weak, there is a reason they are shopping him. Amazing playmaker with very good hands, but there is a reason why Chi traded him and Carolina might want to part with him.

With that said, he tics a lot of boxes for us. Very good on the PP. Elite at creating offense when he is around the puck. Natural center. Young. Definitely have potential to put it all together. I wouldn't be surprised if he could become like a Riberio type who got into the top 15 in scoring although I might not be likely, but he has that potential.

I guess it hinges on their plan for Nylander. Lou and Babcock prefer to ease young centers into the league as wings with Matthews being an exception. Do they break up their top line? Or is a Matthews/Nylander 1-2 punch better?

I can't see Kadri being their #2 much longer but that could be a problem for next year.

I would take on either guy. Don't get me wrong. But I doubt Hayes is involved, we need centers and they may have a glut. Wing is our position of strength and some of our parts could be very attractive to a young team looking for playoff experience, hence Marleau.

I kind of like that our organization is getting good at keeping things quiet. Im not complaining :)

I live in Carolina. The Hurricanes like Teravainen and have no reason to move him. They also just extended him and the team very badly wants to make the playoffs this year. Don't think it's happening.
