One of Karlsson's demands (and the Rangers should do it anyhow) to sign an extension should be the demand of better condition of the ice in the Garden whatever it takes.

I think the one advantage that the Rangers have over a team like Tampa/Vegas is they can afford to deal off of their roster.

and even though he was much better than namestnikov, hes not the one who was extended.
the more i think about it, the more i think this is happening. from the dolan comments about eyeing a player that might become available, signing claesson, karlsson relationship with nyr players, to brooks being the one to break the news. it feels like the makings of something that was very clearly going to happen in hindsight.
edit*still no word from BBkers on what he meant yesterday either, right? seemed like he was infering taking ryan and karlsson. good on him for being tight lipped btw if he hasn't followed up
