At least if EK65 goes to Tampa, we definitely get that 1st next year.

Erik Karlsson, PACK YOUR S***!

Also, knowing how cheap and dumb OTT is and the wizardry of Stevie Y, it’ll probably get done for Cally, two 2nds + a B- prospect.

BBKers has been saying the Rangers have been in talks to take on a contract. This would seem like the Rangers are more likely to be involved as the team taking on Ryan for Vegas and gaining pieces.

I know I, like many of us, would love Karlsson, but I don’t see Gorton rushing this. He has the buy in from his bosses and the organization but more importantly the fan base. If we were discussing a UFA, I could see it.

I got all worked up over the draft and then it wasn't as exciting as I had hoped.

I got moderately worked up over free agency and that was a dud.

Now I'm getting worked up again.

You can't keep doing this to an old man!

Make the deal Gorts!

I mean, with this collection of prospects plus the ‘1 year out of ufa’ fellas, something has got to give.. right?

How will it look in 4-5 years? I want to see build a decade long contender. Winning the Cup in any one year is a crapshoot. I disagree with oscillating between short windows.
I totally get what you mean, but let's say you can acquire Karlsson for essentially just money (the asset going the other way is essentially meaningless) so you keep the core you've built + keep building on that?

If he is traded to Vegas and likes it there by all means I can see him agree to an extension. That said, I don't think he will simply sign a contract out of fear, regardless of where he ends up.
I agree, but lets say that the suitors are us, Tampa and Vegas like the rumors are saying. I think he wouldn't care.

So essentially, a 3 team deal?

Everyone here is. Look at the offers on this thread in the last 2 hrs. And dude your the one who doesn’t understand the context of what I’m saying. So get your facts straight and understand the situation :) :)
Everyone just responded to your post to refute for me so nothing really to say here.

Very simple though...taking on Ryan’s contract lowers EK’s trade value significantly. Very simple. Rangers have the cap space to take on Ryan’s contract and get an elite defenseman. They give them a younger winger in Spooner. They can get a younger NHL defenseman out of it. They can get a draft pick out of it. And the relief of the awful Ryan contract.

If we’re taking on that massive, stinking pile of dog s*** that is Bobby Ryan’s contract, these ‘pieces’ better be monumental.

Sure, Vegas, we’ll do it, but for Cody Glass +
Period.

I’d want one of VGK’s top picks from the 2017 draft to make it palatable for me to take Ryan’s Contract.

You totally misunderstood what I was saying. I was saying posters on this board are out to lunch thinking the cost would be Hayes/skjei +. We are saying the same thing. You don’t seem to get that

Do you see that yet? What’s up man. We are saying the same thing

Stay away from karlsson unless we sign him, don’t give up any assets for him! We are rebuilding!

So why exactly are we willing to give up assets for him again? He's a piece a team who needs that bit more to put them over the edge to make them contenders. If we get EK we become at best bubble playoff team....

I’m equally intrigued by the third party option who has the space to make Ryan go away for a team interested in Karlsson

That said, if a team is breaking the bank for Karlsson, how much are they going to be willing to give to make Ryan go away?

Vegas’ probably as the more intriguing top prospect options as opposed to someone like Tampa. But are they giving away a Glass or Suzuki to get rid of Ryan?

Don’t think so

agree mostly, but not in regards to a hard window of competition

karlsson just makes the window wider.

2016 is realistically what we looked at as a window closing and that squads last chance to make a run.

is

Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Namestnikov-Chytill-Zuccarello
Ryan-Hayes-Spooner
Vesey-Andersson-Fast

Skjei-Karlsson
Staal-Shattenkirk
Claesson/Gilmour-Pionk

really worse than

Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Nash-Stepan-Zuccarello
Miller-Hayes-Grabner
Vesey-Lindberg-Fast

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Holden
Skjei-Smith

?

Back to what you said, given the cost, Karlsson could be a huge add. Where I disagree is it not fitting a window, I think it just opens it back up again while promoting a winning culutre (not to be underrated).
*ya i know the 2019 roster i posted would not be that way if we made a trade for Karlsson and I made assumptions on people making the team/being effective in a role, but the pieces are there to have a team that can compete and potentially already be younger and better than the last time we competed in 2016, while having a better farm and young talent trying to break in.

*edit was looking to quote hattrickswayze but this site is so god damn broken in firefox at least
also i think it's worth noting that getting karlsson doesn't mean you're done rebuilding. it just says that you're confident with the prospects you've drafted being ready in 2-3 years. a 32 yr old ovechkin just won the cup and was pivotal. chara near what was thought would be the twilight of his career won a cup. lidstrom, same thing. he was a huge part of what won detroit their last cup.

those who think this is an old school rangers type move trying to put the team into win now mode are straight up wrong. if the rangers are in the mix for ek65 they're acquiring him for what he'll be when the team is ready and *has* completed the rebuild.

honestly, karlsson's health is the biggest red flag for me on this entire ordeal. if he were to be acquired, i wouldnt want him skating a game on rangers ice until he and the team doctors believe that risk is completely minimalized. again, you're not trading for karlsson to win you a cup the next 2 years. you're getting him to continue the organization wide winning culture and for what he'll be in his 30's, which is probably still a top defenseman in the league.

Another interesting possibility if the Rangers flipped EK to Vegas: Nikita Gusev. Vegas picked up his rights from Tampa and he has one more year left on his deal with SKA. Could he join his teammates in Rykov and Shesty if/when they jump the pond next summer? Potentially gives the Rangers another RH shot in the top-six.

I’d be shocked if the rangers trade for karlsson and trade him immediately. That would be the most shocking non-ranger thing in my life. You really think the New York rangers are gonna flip the generational talent. Its about Erik karlsson becoming the main man for the rangers. Get on board or stay sour

That said it seems clear to me that the team is interested and wants to keep him If they get him

Brooks leaking the Sens allowing teams to talk terms means the Rangers are probably talking potential terms

Kind of OT, but if Vegas are going to pony up big pieces for EK now, why the hell didn't they do it at the TDL when there were playoff games to win?

3 way:

To Tampa: EK
To Rangers: Ryan , Sens 1st unprotected
To Sens: A lot from Tampa.
