And we have Carp coming in hot torpedoing everything

That said I don’t believe it

"According to people familiar with the Rangers' thinking....."

This is how 'fake news' starts, 99% of the time. Just saying

edit - He states we would have to give up 'top prospects' - I don't believe that.
He states we are not willing to eat a contract. - That is contrary to what BBK has said.
He states we will not give 11M$ per to a generational talent @ 29years old. debatable

I don't think the Rangers will give up guys like their recent draft picks (Andersson, Chytil, Kravstov, Miller, Lundqvist, etc) and would rather move a roster player and picks for Karlsson (and try to re-coup some of those picks later) but I doubt that gets it done.

That could easily be someone inside the organization who knows whats up though.

He seems to base his opinion on what he heard and the fact that the Rangers aren't going to part with what they've acquired over the last 13 months.

I agree with this, but I also think Ottawa would prefer "now" players over a package headlined by draft picks and prospects in Juniors.

Perhaps the Rangers are fully committed to not adding any big contracts, but again if they want to deal off of their roster, they can.

Either Carp has some sources these days or he's 100% lying these days. That said, doesn't' mean his sources are always accurate or giving him the truth

Wait people actually think Rangers can get Cody Glass by taking bobby Ryan as a cap dump....?

It depends.

If the Rangers offered up Hayes+Skjei+1st+2nd I think that would be pretty tough to beat.

I'm not advocating this, I don't like the idea of moving arguably your 2 most valuable roster assets in a single deal, even if its for EK, but this is a luxury that we have that his other suitors (if the Rangers are in on this) don't have.

Hayes for Fauk+Fox, flip Faulk to Edmonton
Last week there was a writer on Sirius NHL (I think he was a Calgary reporter but I could be wrong) who said Fox wouldn't sign with Calgary, which is why he was traded and he said he wasn't going to sign with Carolina either, that Fox was a NY guy and he'd sign with the Rangers or Islanders after his college eligibility was up. I hope the Rangers can make this happen...but that's a while away.

Hmmm, I don't agree. I think that's easily beat and I'd drive those guys to the airport if that got us EK65. I'd also say Zibanejad and Kreider are more valuble than Hayes, IMO.

Problem with offering Hayes and Skjei to Ottawa is that they're both due new contracts soon and Ottawa has an aversion to paying players

Logic says Brooks got the scoop from the Rangers. If they weren’t it the mix, what is their value in leaking the story?

I’d like Carp to be wrong here but I don’t know. What I do know is that he’s lost a lot off off of his fastball.

I’m just going to read a book tonight.

Logic also says that if the Rangers are putting out bits of info to reporters it is best to put out competing things so nothing can be leveraged against you. If the person you are negotiating with thinks that you have leaked you really want a player then it hurts your stance.

Who beats it and with what?

Most teams aren't going to trade off of their rosters and futures are just that.

Ottawa needs sure things.

Shannon has impeccable Ranger sources btw.

I'd pay attention to him.

Carp may be right about this one though. People like to bag on him but the guy does have sources.

Larry never said the Rangers were in on EK btw
.
Then why write about it?

Something doesn't smell right with this. Brooks tweets unsolicited that a teams looking to acquire Karlsson have been talking to Karlsson and his agent about an extension. Doesn't mention the Rangers, or any other team by name.

Rick Carpaniello, whom has had questionable sources at best in the past even before he joined The Athletic, wrote an outright denial piece that the Rangers would even be interested in Karlsson and would not be willing to take on a bad contract to facilitate it. I call BS on the latter point. @BBKers has mentioned multiple times that the Rangers are looking at taking on a bad contract for assets. The Rangers have tons of cap space at the moment. They didn't overpay for any bottom six forwards on the free agent market. They're saving their pennies for something.

Back to Karlsson and the Rangers. I still maintain that there's too much smoke about the possibility. Dolan's comments back at the end of the season about acquiring elite talent through trades when elite talent becomes available and through the draft. Kravtsov has 1st line potential. Karlsson is an elite talent and is available through trade. Do the math here. I'd be very surprised if Dolan isn't in Gorton and Sather's ears about Karlsson.

The Rangers signing Frederick Claesson whom has played a lot with Karlsson the past couple of years in Ottawa and is apparently good personal friends with Karlsson.

The friendship with Karlsson and Hank. Same as Dolan, I find it hard to believe that Lundqvist isn't calling up his bosses and pushing for them to make an offer. Also, one would have to think that Hank is doing a bit of personal recruiting on his own. It's not tampering if a friend is trying to recruit another friend to play for their team.

my favorite is when the sens promised their fans they'd be better next year than they were last year

while trying to trade karlsson and a top goal scorer (for whom they got peanuts in return)

They would want a good young player (Skjei) and then futures as they build their organization back up. It would be Skjei, Chytil and then picks probably and maybe a lesser piece like a Pionk/Spooner on top of it.

I don't see what Hayes, an RFA and two years from UFA does for the Sens right now. i think the Islanders would go all in on Karlsson, they probably have the pieces for him.

Make the deal to take on Bobby Stevenson’s contract, then make the Hayes trade to recoup some more assets. Successful offseason.

Yea that’s a nope from the Canes..

Now that San Jose didn’t get Tavares, I wonder if they should have just kept Hoffman?
