Staal, Shatty, HL and Smith will be off the books. Girardi's hit will be 1.1M instead of 3.6
We'll have more than enough space.
Forgotthey all only had 3 years left.

Sounds like EK wants 11.
But yeah they'd need to shed a few bodies. Zucc coming off the books helps, but they're going to be up against it when the next wave of youngin's are RFA's.
And for 5 years, no? Not next year plus 8.Gorton signed him as a free agent. He didn’t trade a bunch of assets for him
Some of those pieces are too much imo, I think we sometimes undersell just how toxic Ryan’s contract is. It’s an albatross. To me if they can't get it done with some combo of Skjei/Pionk and Buchnevich/Hayes/Zucc+ a pick or 2 they need to walk away.
Losing Skjei or Hayes and take on a very expensive bad contract to only get Glass? Not worth it IMHO.
8pm MSG NetworkDid the presser already happen? If not, when? And will it be aired somewhere?

Dorion is opening up the negotiations because the offers must be frighteningly low. He needs an extended EK to get the desired return. I just don't see how we steal him while so many teams are in the running. I mean, Karlsson could refuse to come to terms with teams except the ones he sees a future with but you can't count on him moving heaven and earth to make a NYR deal work.
I know a lot of posters disagree but I'm very bullish to the trade. Just stay the course. It's a 9 year commitment and we will drop prospects, do an about face and go all in yet again. Henrik will ride out the contract. Igor might balk if he doesn't get the net.
The one thing that makes me optimistic is dorion needs salary coming back. It might be a deal based around Hayes and Spooner. Other pieces, yes, but maybe not too much.
Personally, I'm fascinated to see the current course play out. Lurk on the fringes and strike when a team is desperate. Take advantage instead of being at everyone's mercy.
Another interesting bit would be if Lou offer shorted Nylander and we got a bounty from Toronto for helping with their cap. Taking on Horton and Martin, a 1st and Kapinen for Beleskey or O'Gara. Stick it back to Lou and keep your star.
No doubt, and I won't say that EK can't pull it off too. But that's twice as long of an initial commitment plus the trade instead of just a series of contracts. It was a 5 year deal, but its worth noting that Chara has been there for 13 years now.
Yes I know he is the freak of all freaks and certainly an outlier, but elite players usually age well.
If there is a deal to be made it will have to come at the expense of roster players. I don't think JG amassed all of this prospect depth just to trade it away before they have a chance to even see what they have. They've been rumored to have a center available for a top 4 RHD so maybe this is where it happens.

Think of how the front office may view it - taking on a bad contract for an extra, developed top ten pick. That must be tempting.Losing Skjei or Hayes and take on a very expensive bad contract to only get Glass? Not worth it IMHO.
I personally think Ryan could turn it around ( Maybe not 7.25M$ worth but better than 20-30pts).. He had a really strong playoffs 2 years ago.
The Tweet was that Ottawa has given interested teams permission to negotiate with EK.I've obviously missed a tweet/rumour, but is there serious talk we may be trading for EK?
9 years is a long time, I guess it comes down to whether they think they can be competitive (should be challenging fore ECF) in over half those years, ideally at least 6 of the 9. If they believe that's realistic then roll the dice; otherwise just walk away now

I'm fine with or without EK
