Giant free agent contract have never turned out poorly in the past. Stick with what works

Let me believe...

Kreider Zibby Zucc
Names Chytil Kravstov
Andersson Hayes Ryan

Skjei Karlsson
Hajek Shatty
Staal/Smith/ADA

I have no idea what it would even take. If you're taking on that Ryan contract, that has to bring the price significantly down because that's horrendous. How many teams can afford to take on 7.25 + Karlsson's 6.5 and 11+ going forward.

From an NYR perspective in order for it to work off the bat, I think Hayes goes for salary purposes/big piece. Skjei is younger and the Rangers are thin on LD. DeAngelo goes in the deal as well. Karlsson + Shattenkirk makes him redundant plus Ottawa gets a RD to take Karlsson's spot. After that, I have no idea what else goes in this deal. Depending on extensions given out, Spooner no longer fits under the cap so he either gets thrown into this deal or goes elsewhere. All of the Rangers first rounders + upcoming first should be untouchable.

I'm not in favor of this but depending on what the price is, it would be foolish not to at least check in. That Ryan contract is so toxic it could drive down the price significantly.

All true, but to be fair Chara was a FA, this would obviously cost us some assets.

Thats what you have to consider.

I don't want to paint Skjei as expendable because he is our best defender, but with all the LHD we have in the system (and a few who are close) I don't think it's as hard to lose him.

Not to mention that if he's available, that gives us a leg up on pretty much every other team who would be in it unless they can shake Theodore loose from Vegas.

I still think that the Rangers, if they are in fact in on Karlsson, are doing so to try and flip him. Vegas didn't want to include Glass originally. What if the Rangers can send Karlsson there without Ryan? Does that and a sniff at the cup change GMGM's mind?

Ryan could rebound and turn into a trade able asset with salary retention. 4 years left. That's an easier contract to absorb than Lucic.

I personally think Ryan could turn it around ( Maybe not 7.25M$ worth but better than 20-30pts).. He had a really strong playoffs 2 years ago.

I definitely see where you are coming from. Perhaps with guys like Hajek/Rykov/Lindgren, Skjei is a bit more expendable, perhaps adding De Haan, who knows. I am not opposed in the least to adding Karlsson. Guys like him are who you want to add if you are making a big investment contract wise.

I've thought about that in regards to Ryan. Now I'm not going to say I've watched him a ton as I'm not tuning into many Sens games and by all accounts he was terrible, but he did put up 33 points in 62 games. About a 44 point pace over 82? Good? Not really but in a better situation and a change of scenery maybe he could push that to 50. Maybe Ottawa even retains a million or so which makes it even easier to deal him down the line.

A lot of things to consider.

Agreed --> I see it as that we'd be the middleman and take on Ryan's deal and get an asset in order to do so. So it'll be two separate transactions, where we'll send a weaker package to Ottawa to get Karlsson and Ryan, but flip Karlsson to Vegas for something like Suzuki/Glass and Colin Miller as a base.

I'm sure there's a way to work out a three-way deal in here somewhere.

That would be a grand slam. Get me good Glass.

I agree with the latter point 100%.

If they're trading for him, it has to be at your price. Dorion is an idiot with an even bigger idiot for an owner (in before someone says OVERPAID FOR 22nd PICK!) so that part shouldn't be that hard to accomplish...

We'll see how desperate Vegas and others are to get him though. There is definitely a point at which it's time to walk away, and for me thats when they demand one of the centers we took last year.

If Vegas wants to surrender Glass/Suzuki on top of Theodore, God bless em.
