Rangers have to be in conversation for softest roster in NHL. I think mcilrath has to make the roster if he's close or we will be abused.

This is definitive proof that MGMT thinks we have a winning roster and that it was 100% Torts fault. Confirmed.

Are there any reports of NYR talking to players (signed or available)?

Seems like we're standing pat in our interest because of assumption of lack of cap.

No reports that anyone has posted.

Re-signing our RFAs pushes us fairly close to the cap. I guess we're holding off.

if Hendricks got 1.8 per for 4 yrs then Lapierre can get that and if thats the case just keep Boyle for another yr

I think Sather might be waiting to see who doesn't get a deal today. There are always some quality depth players left out in the cold.

I think it's becoming clear that signing any Free Agent is a bad idea. You don't want Nathan Horton for 7 years on a FA contract. You want him for 2 or 3 on his previous one, then let him walk when it's time to get paid. Overpaying for a great player doesn't kill you. Overpaying Clarkson/Horton types is what does. And lets face it, those are usually the only types that hit the open market.

Sign no one. We have a lot of exciting prospects competing for less spots than there are. There is another big trade we can make down the line. Maybe not this offseason. But next one, for sure.

They must be looking to pay out the ass for Mcdonagh and Stepan.

I would.

Derek Stepan: 11th in scoring among centers. 21st overall. This is on a weak offensive team, with a terrible power play, and after a pretty brutal start to the season. Aside from raw numbers, did anyone else see the incredible jump Stepan made with his skating? It was night and day. He's a legitimate 1C.

First 18 games- 3g, 6a, 9pts.
Final 30 games- 15g, 20a, 35pts.

Ryan McDonagh: a defensive rock with offensive upside. Already Top 10.

Aged 23 and 24 respectively. These are very strong core players. I want them on the team for the next decade.

Seriously? We couldn't afford a player at 1.85m?
Are we really that tight to the cap.

If we give our RFA's deals like this (AAV):

McDonagh: 4,250,000
Stepan: 3,750,000
Hagelin: 2,000,000
Zuccarello: 1,750,000
Falk: 975,000

And bury Asham and Powe, if Miller winds up being the rookie to make the team (our most expensive contract in the minors) we have roughly 2,500,000 in cap space. Edit: McIlrath is actually our most expensive contract in HFD, but not by much. 2.5 mil holds.

I'm not sure how close I am on those projected AAV's, but yeah. We can afford to sign a 4th liner who will add size and tenacity.

thats not a bad thing... the most we could have gotten is Ribiero, Clarkson (yuck), Hendricks, Scuderi, Stalberg, Grabovski, and maybe a few others...

Are those players exceptional? Maybe, but at the prices they are being signed at?! Absolutely not... There's more to a team than the players, it's the players chemistry together. Alot of our guys have that, therefore no reason to muck with it, you know?

Id like Fillpula and Lapierre, but other than that Im fine with standing pat. These contracts and lengths are out of control. Its nice not to be involved in this hoopla for once.

People have made that mistake before. The Rangers are plenty game.

They just won't be in the best position to respond or deter aggression. They know it. I'm thinking they will address it soon.

#NYR As @NYP_Brooksie wrote, Rangers expected to circle back on Dominic Moore. Had interest in signing him before and right after lockout

Would be a very good underrated signing.

The only headline i want to read regarding the Rangers should have one of these names in it, McD, Stepan, Hagelin, Falk, Zuke.

Does anyone have an idea how much it would cost to lock step and mcd each up for 8 yrs. I'd prefer to pay current rate vice when the cap goes up.

I'm all for Moore.. I think Boyle-Moore-Dorsett is actually a competent 4th line.

I like it. Moore adds a bit of skill. Boyle wouldn't have to do anything more then cycle and shoot when Moore can get the puck to him. The man scored 20 goals before, he CAN get a decent shot away.

Also allows Dorsett to just be the banger that he is.
