Pretty much the best take on the Sekera gamble I've seen.

I think this is the most cap space we've had in years. Approx $10M, of course we have to re-sign Kopitar but cmon, you're telling me we can't afford to dish Sekera $5.5 AAV?
 
I don't mind the cap hit for Sekera, but I wouldn't give him a 6 year deal. And I have a feeling that Lombardi didn't want to do that either.
 
Oilers' fans must be losing their minds right now. Future is looking a lot brighter then last year.
 
we can't afford anything that big right now because of the MR situation

if we end up with his contract on the books again or having to buyout, we're absolutely ****ed if we have another 5mil+ 5 year contract on the books

again, not gonna see anything big today
 
Is it weird that I want Cody Franson more than Sekera? Right handed shot, fits right next to McNabb... Doubt we get him cuz you know, we don't sign anyone in free agency. I have no issue with it, but we have a major hole on D. If it weren't for LA overpaying Alec Martinez at $4M AAV to be on the 3rd pair, maybe we'd have money. Just saying.

And a backup goalie, and RFA's.

Isn't some of that cap space Voynov's?
 
if Voynov goes to jail we're screwed

I'd have never given him 6 years tho. This deal has albatross written over him by 2018 or 2019.
