Champions Again
is he 28 or 29? 5-6 sounds about what's to be expected.
Just noticed the NMC and I think that's the reason Lombardi backed out.,

and the Kings continue to be in cap hell twilight zone like all season long. It really has been a fascinating year.we can't afford anything that big right now because of the MR situation
if we end up with his contract on the books again or having to buyout, we're absolutely ****ed if we have another 5mil+ 5 year contract on the books
again, not gonna see anything big today
Who cares about 6 years, you know what you can do after a couple of years? Trade him!
Ugh.
Pucking-moving, play-driving defensemen are the engines of good NHL clubs. They make the whole team operate better. Consequently they're rare and valuable. I'd take that contract with the NMC all day.And the NMC?
6 years for a 35 year old? I dont think Dean wouldve done it
hmmmm,,,, that could have been doable. Not sure why dl would have passed on that.
and the Sekera trade looks that much worse.....F me
Dear Baby Jesus... please let Lucic steamroll Sekera..
Thanks!
Oh boy. RP your better than that.
How can Dean not match that
It's not even if McKeown or the pick turn into NHL players, because prospects and picks are always gambles. No individual prospect or pick has that much value, since they're unknown. Thus, it's easy to say, "It's just a pick," "Prospects are just crap-shoots," that sort of thing.
That misses the point though; you have to keep a steady stream of prospects moving through your organization, and you want to be picking as high as you can in order to assure overall quality. So, no one pick is worth much, but you can't dump your top picks year after year, at least not without jeopardizing the medium-term future of the club. And, while dealing those picks for current players makes sense to a degree--full credit to Lombardi for Gaborik, and several other very shrewd trades--if you're getting players that either only play with you a bit (Sekera) or aren't really addressing your central needs (Lucic), then you're just burning through assets without much return.
That's my problem with the whole string of trades we've made. High-risk/high-reward moves are fine, and necessary in certain situations, but that doesn't mean you throw ALL caution to the wind and dump substantial assets for very marginal returns. Particularly when Lombardi, contrary to popular belief, doesn't really have an exceptional draft record. Nor do we have a well-stocked prospect pipeline right now. There are a few interesting players who may contribute, but very little top-end talent. I'd be much more okay with all this if it looked to me like we were genuinely improving the team on the ice after last season, but that's not obvious at all. Lucic helps us in one area, but not in the area we most need it.
$5.5M for Sekera. 6 years. Wow. You guys don't think Kings could've afforded that?
