On paper leafs, lighting, panthers and bruins got worse while Red wings, Senators got better. Montreal is a toss up right now I can argue both ways for them.

The gap between top 4 and other 4 has become closer but I still think there’s a bit of separation between them. Big concern is if the goaltending flops.

Big thing this season is how the senators and red wing young players develop. Do any of them take a big step forward?

Not on the team by playoffs... Ritchie, Amadio, Dermott

Added Giordano, Lyubushkin, Blackwell.

Our division, Tampa, Florida, Boston are all weaker. Detroit, Ottawa and Buffalo are stronger. We are likely weaker than last years team.

Our roster heading into the playoffs this coming year, will probably have 4-5 players on it, currently not listed on our roster on CapFriendly. Yes, everyone was hoping for more today, but it's just the first day, and it's a long time away from the Trade Deadline, and the addition of guys like Knies. Yes, everyone knows what we currently have isn't good enough, and we should all understand this isn't a finished product. The current team is good enough to make the playoffs, and the only thing that matters is success in the playoffs. Am I wrong, the only thing that matters is success in the playoffs. We aren't going into the playoffs with this roster. Chill, have a beer, it's summer and enjoy it.

People need to look at this very closely before saying the Leafs took a step back. Even doing nothing, it's a much better roster today, and there is still cap space! (Until the RFA's sign).

My guess: Both Simmonds and Kerfoot are out. We use that money to get a couple of solid additions (guys who are not super expensive but should be guaranteed fixtures in our lineup). One of them may even be a 2LW and pushes Anderson down to the 4th line, and both can even be gritty as long as they can bring some offense.

Anderson and Malgin will have to fight with all of those guys on that Marlies depth chart. If Malgin loses his spot to a prospect, he is likely traded and we will have guys who can backfill internally.

The issue is replacement. I think Holl and kerfoot can probably be replaced which maybe buys you a million total.

Muzzin and brodiu are difficult at this point. I don't know who else they would move

I think you can replace Kerfoot with two players in the 2 million range. The hard part is finding someone that is going to gel and work on a line with Tavares and Nylander.

I was thinking replace him for 2
Holl for a D man at 3/4 but yeah the issue is he's technically in your top 6 so that's an issue to replace

I think part of that issue is that we think he's going to hit the bonuses and we'll be hit with an overage
