Florida needs to make cap space and likely dump Hornqvist now .. which should cost them more picks.

Not going to be cheap either. 5.3 mill in cap. 5.3 mill in salary. He is still useful as a bottom 6 veteran but he is making close to 5x what he is worth right now.

B prospect + 2nd; just like Stralman last year... And they do not really have too many guys who fit in that category. Maybe they can get a Christian Fischer (from ARI) or Max Jones (from ANA) in return by adding a little bit extra... Like Sourdif + Denisenko + 2nd?

Nylander and JT are not going to outproduce Barkov and Tkachuk

Barkov will get 90-95 points
Tkachuk 80-90

Nylander 75-85
JT 70 - 75

The panther's top duo is considerably better than our 3rd and 4th best forwards

Marner and Matthews should be 100-110 range so they easily ahead of Barkov and Tkachuk

Tkachuk and Brakov are to Florida as to Matthews and Marner are to TO.

Other Comparables.

2021-22 Stats
============
Florida's Sam Reinhart drafted #2 OA ............ 78 games 33 goals 49 assists 82 points @ $6,500,000
vs
Toronto's William Nylander drafted #8 OA ... 81 games 34 goals 46 assists 80 points @ $6,962,366

&

John Tavares ..................... 79 games 27 goals 49 assists 76 points @ $11,000,000
vs
Sam Bennett ..................... 71 games 28 goals 21 assists 49 points @ $4,425,000
Carter Verhaeghe..........., 78 games 24 goals 31 assists 55 points @ $4,166,667
Anthony Duclair.............., 74 games 31 goals 27 assists 58 points @ $3,000,000

Total ........................................................... 83 goals 79 assists 162 points @ $11,591,667

Florida gets 3 forwards for the price of Tavares and outscore him 83 goals to 27 and 162 points to 76.

Points vs cap consumption.

Toronto: Matthews + Marner + Tavares + Nylander = $ 40,505,366 - Stats .... Goals : 156 .. Assists: 163 assists & 319 points
vs
Florida: Barkov + Tkachuk + Reinhart + Bennett + Verhaeghe + Duclair = Cap $ 37,591,667 - Stats .... Goals : 197 .. Assists: 239 assists & 436 points

Florida's entire top 6 forwards for - $3 mil less cap consumption outscore and outproduce Leafs core 4, because they spread the wealth across their offense.

Oh Maurice. The guy who has missed the playoffs and underperformed with some very good Winnipeg teams playing in front of a Vezina level goaltender. Him, right? He'll make all the difference.

He is just a hater and cherry picks his views to get his agenda across

Maurice also had 3 first rd exist…missed playoffs 13 times as head coach and never won a cup as head coach

Keefe record is 116 wins and 50 losses in his first 3 seasons …yet this poster hates him

go figure

Simple. One guy was hired by Dubas and the other was not. Keefe would be getting the praise if it was the other way around.

Here is how I'm keeping score at home. :wg:

Florida 122 points vs Toronto 115 points .................................................. Winner : Florida
Florida 340 Goals For vs Toronto 315 Goals For ..................................... Winner : Florida
Florida 246 Goals Against vs Toronto 253 Goals Against .................... Winner: Florida
Florida +94 Goal Diff vs Toronto +62 Goal Diff ....................................... Winner: Florida
Florida Playoffs : Lost in round #2 vs Toronto : Lost in round #1 ..... Winner: Florida

Florida trades 30 goals 115 point forward Huberdeau for 42 goals 104 point forward Tkachuk, Well that's the end of the Panthers !!!. :)

But the real winners were Colorado and Tampa Bay because "defense wins championships", and Florida and Toronto werte only battling for regular season records and trophies.

I could see them packaging Denisenko and Hornqvist for a player that can help them now .. like a top 9 winger who needs a change of scenery, or a top 4 d-man who also needs a change of scenario .. In that case the returning player would need to be signed for cheap too.

LD Robert Hagg
LD Zdeno Chara
LD Andy Greene (pretty much said NYI or retire though)
LD/RD Calvin de Haan
LD Ryan Murray
LD Jack Johnson
LD Danny DeKeyser
LD Keith Yandle
LD/RD Kris Russell
LD/RD Grigori Dronov (ARI hasn't officially signed him)
RD John Klingberg
RD PK Subban
RD Michael Stone
RD Anton Stralman

The list is not looking too good for teams that still need defensemen. Klingberg is a top 4 guy, but he may need to settle for a one year deal at like 4.5-5 mill and try to cash in next year. Dronov, Hagg, de Haan, Stone, Subban, and Stralman may be able to fill a #6 spot for a team. The rest should pretty much consider retirement or Europe unless a team decides to take a swing on them as 7/8 guys on their depth charts.

Why would any team be willing to do that unless they too were dropping a cap dump, which Florida can't afford.

At this point, Denisenko is a bust. He has some prestige and he is still only 22 so some teams may value him like a B prospect, but there would have to be a 2nd on top of him just to dump Hornqvist for like a 7th.

Add Bunting's numbers to Tavares numbers and see what happens. You'll be shocked!

Mess has figured it out, everyone. 3 players outscore 1 player. A bloody genius we have here.

One reason you've seen people advocate for something like trading JT to grab other players is kinda highlighted above. 11M in player like JT and as we saw with him going against MTL, we have a huge hole in the line up without 11M there.

I can understand investing $$ into some premium guys like Matthews and Marner but after those 2 top heavy guys, you wanna start being able to field a great-very good top 9. We really fall off after the top 6 and even then we're relying on the big guys to inflate Bunting and Kerfoot etc.

Florida were overachievers all year relying on all offense no defence and comeback wins. It worked against an average team against the Caps, but when they faced a real team, they didn't belong. Since than they lost some key forward pieces, and a great defenceman. Tkachuk doesn't make up for that.

Look at that defence. That is just awful.
Look at ours.

Not close to being comparable. You could make a good case Holl is better than anything they have after Ekblad.

Add Bunting's numbers to Tavares numbers and see what happens. You'll be shocked!

Oh well at least Barzal is better than Marner.

That's why this deal is a bit confusing. Tkachuk is a great long term piece for their core and a nice alternative to Huberdeau .. but it's cost them a lot in terms of the ability to compete and win now (weaker blue line, less assets to use at the deadline).

.. And even in the long term, they've pillaged their draft capital and prospect pool. So when they have to re-sign Verhaeghe, Bennett, Reinhart, Ekblad, Duclair, they will have a hard time fitting them in and nothing in the cupboard to replace them with. Plus they will have to rely on bargain UFA signings to fill out their roster, not cheap quality ELC talent.

That's it? The only Florida move is Tkachuk in and Huberdeau out? Dollars are equally too? Yep, looks like they may have got better...maybe.

Wait, what? The new Tkachuk deal is $3.5M more than what Huberdeau was going to make this year? Weeger out too? #2 dman.

Add to that the loss of Marchment. Giroux and Chiarot are gone too.

Why would you possibly stop your year over year comparison at Tkachuk for Huberdeau.

Oh well, at least they have lots of draft picks left to help them unload Bobrovsky. Wait, what?

I can't believe how in the span of one trade Zito has destroyed the Panthers for this upcoming season and beyond. Tkachuk is really good but you can't give up Hubs, a 1st, AND Weegar for him. They're 3.375 million over the cap with a bottom 5 defense in the league and can't even get compliant by putting Duclair on LTIR. (Which even then is only a temporary bit of relief). They've lost a lot of secondary scoring in Marchment and Giroux and have no 1sts in the near future to trade. They're f***ed unless Knight goes god mode unexpectedly.

I think it's become a two-horse race between Tampa and Toronto in the Atlantic. Bruins are too injured and Panthers just wrecked themselves in the short term.

No Marchment, Giroux, Huberdeau, Weegar, or Chiarot. Plus Duclair is out with an injury and they might have a cap casualty too.

If they could move Bobrovsky and replace him with a comparable keeper they'd be fine.

However, we're talking $28mm real.

What asset do you have to included beside Gilooly?

Oh well... It is good that a once-formidable division rival has totally mismanaged themselves.

They probably have some kind of cap clearing move like dumping Hornqvist in the hamper, and maybe they will consider adding a couple of more bargain bin guys to throw in the mix.

Florida has had success in the past with bargain bin guys so I would not be surprised if they could turn Carlsson into something good (like they did with Forsling and Weegar) or they sign guys like Dronov, Hagg, Milano, Heinen, Donato, etc. in UFA and do the same. They already added White and Balcers as well, so up front they will probably be fine.

I just do not know if icing a defense where Ekblad and Forsling are your only proven top 4 guys and the rest are either solid #5/6 guys or bargain bin guys is really the way to go as a team that likely wants to be a Cup Contender and you have shaky goaltending.
