Backcheck, Forecheck, Paycheque.
Gonna be interesting to see how Florida replaces Weegar’s contributions, if at all.
They have a huge cap hit on the Yandle buyout this year (5.3 million) and an additional 1.2 million from Scott DarlingIs that correct? They only have Hornqvist at $5.3 million and Gudas at $2.5 million coming up as UFAs. Not sure how much defense they can get with that budget while their forward group continues to shrink.

Thats a awful D-core, FLA to me is a worse team today then they were yesterday.Forsling - Ekblad
Carlsson - Gudas
Staal - Montour
Not too sexy.
they never really were same after big buffHonestly though that D core makes the Jets D core look like a dynasty D core![]()
Feels like we say this a lot but there's a huge opportunity here. We're arguably the best team in the East if one of Murray/Samsonov can get hot during playoff timeI'd also like to add that Tampa looks worse as well.
Seriously, we downgraded the least out of the 4 in our division.
Tampa Lost:
Odrej Palat
Ryan Mcdonagh
Jan Rutta
Riley Nash?
Brought In:
Vladislav Namestnikov
Ian Cole
Phillippe Myers
Hadyn Fleury
I'd like to add they also decimated their depth when trading for Paul and Hagel | (Out went Joseph, Raddysh and Katchouk)
I don't think those dman will replace Mcdonagh, and they have no Palat replacement..
----
Out of the east playoff teams the only team that really improved was maybe Carolina. But is Burns/Pacioretty/Kase/Coghlan/Pedersen better than Trocheck/Deangelo/Domi/Smith/Lorentz/Stepan/Cole.. Probably not.

I mean we came in what second with ECHL goaltending....if they are capable of giving us even like...B-tier NHL goal tending I think we will be fine. It's not all doom and gloom as people are saying tbh...I get it though losing 1st round frustrates the shit out of everyone.Feels like we say this a lot but there's a huge opportunity here. Can't wait to see how they let us down this time!
Florida still $3.375 mil over the cap. They are going to have to shed someone. Moving cap this year will be tough.
Calgary did very well here under the circumstances. Having said that, they have 9 forwards signed and 9 D. A swap of Kerfoot for Weegar makes sense for both sides.
Burns is just about done imo as a desirable top 4 piece. What he gives you offensively he more than loses on defense right now. Pacioretty is good.......when he actually plays games. If Burns declines any further I'd say the Canes got worse easily. God help them if Freddy returns to Earth.I'd also like to add that Tampa looks worse as well.

Straight up? No. Weegar is a legitimate top pairing D. Maybe Kerfoot, 1st and Sandin gets the ball rolling. You'd have to make sure you could re-sign him though. Is Kerfoot for Weegar a possibility? Flames probably keep Weegar
Zito went all-in with his chance as NHL GM, if it works out great and if it don't he can go back being player agent. He has to be really really really good with budget signings, college and European FAs.So I'm assuming they wanted to extend their window with this deal since Huberdeau/Weegar are free agents next year and would've costed a lot
But they have no cap space, no picks, no prospects and an awful defensive core. How are they re-tooling this?
Once they're awful again Tkachuk will start his own show and demand trade.I'm not sure if's long term gain for Florida because they have gutted their farm system and will be relying on UFA and trades to shore up their roster for the next 4-5 years.
Won't be long for them to bit cap tied.
Of course not. I doubt he would bend anyone over? He hasn't before, and it would serve no purpose anyway.Doubt he bends Sakic over.
