Is that correct? They only have Hornqvist at $5.3 million and Gudas at $2.5 million coming up as UFAs. Not sure how much defense they can get with that budget while their forward group continues to shrink.
They have a huge cap hit on the Yandle buyout this year (5.3 million) and an additional 1.2 million from Scott Darling

Next year it'll get reduced down to 1.2 million for just Yandle so they'll gain 5.3 million that way. Either way, the UFA d-core isn't amazing next summer so I don't see them re-tooling it into cup level

Weeger/Tanev out of Calgary would look great with a Leaf crest on the jersey.

Sam Bennett out of Florida would gain my interest.

Kerfoot is the obvious start from the Leafs in any of these, what would be the required add(s)? I'd assume Sandin would be a part of it, and then?

I'd also like to add that Tampa looks worse as well.

Seriously, we downgraded the least out of the 4 in our division.

Tampa Lost:
Odrej Palat
Ryan Mcdonagh
Jan Rutta
Riley Nash?

Brought In:
Vladislav Namestnikov
Ian Cole
Phillippe Myers
Hadyn Fleury

I'd like to add they also decimated their depth when trading for Paul and Hagel | (Out went Joseph, Raddysh and Katchouk)

I don't think those dman will replace Mcdonagh, and they have no Palat replacement..

----
Out of the east playoff teams the only team that really improved was maybe Carolina. But is Burns/Pacioretty/Kase/Coghlan/Pedersen better than Trocheck/Deangelo/Domi/Smith/Lorentz/Stepan/Cole.. Probably not.

Feels like we say this a lot but there's a huge opportunity here. We're arguably the best team in the East if one of Murray/Samsonov can get hot during playoff time

Can't wait to see how they let us down this time!

I mean we came in what second with ECHL goaltending....if they are capable of giving us even like...B-tier NHL goal tending I think we will be fine. It's not all doom and gloom as people are saying tbh...I get it though losing 1st round frustrates the shit out of everyone.

Gonna enjoy the regular season for entertainment and we'll see what happens come playoffs yet again.

Florida still $3.375 mil over the cap. They are going to have to shed someone. Moving cap this year will be tough.

Calgary did very well here under the circumstances. Having said that, they have 9 forwards signed and 9 D. A swap of Kerfoot for Weegar makes sense for both sides.

Leafs need forwards not dmen. Dcore Is stacked.

Seems like the best possible trade the flames could have made for the situation congrats to them.

Panthers probably ltir duclaire and that gets them close. They have a pretty garbage d corps I assume they went all in because they knew they were screwed this year

Well the Tkachuk trade has made this a two horse race between us and Tampa for first in the division. I don't see Florida reaching the 100 point plateau losing Marchment, Duclair out for a while and downgrading from Hubs to Tkachuk at the cost of Weegar. Their D is horrendous looking and they still can't get out of that Bob contract.

Burns is just about done imo as a desirable top 4 piece. What he gives you offensively he more than loses on defense right now. Pacioretty is good.......when he actually plays games. If Burns declines any further I'd say the Canes got worse easily. God help them if Freddy returns to Earth.

Weegar is a top pairing dman, he’s not getting flipped for Alex freaking Keefoot dude cmon ….

Out of those 9 Dmen, it includes 3 guys they’ll just send to the minors. Out of the guys on their D, I can see Valikamki being the guy traded

[MOD] Atlantic just got really opened up. We better take a risk to try and do something, otherwise wasted opportunity imo

So I'm assuming they wanted to extend their window with this deal since Huberdeau/Weegar are free agents next year and would've costed a lot

But they have no cap space, no picks, no prospects and an awful defensive core. How are they re-tooling this?
Zito went all-in with his chance as NHL GM, if it works out great and if it don't he can go back being player agent. He has to be really really really good with budget signings, college and European FAs.

He got balls but if everything go south that is over five year rebuild to fix and we say Dubas is destroying our future.

I'm not sure if's long term gain for Florida because they have gutted their farm system and will be relying on UFA and trades to shore up their roster for the next 4-5 years.

Won't be long for them to bit cap tied.
Once they're awful again Tkachuk will start his own show and demand trade.

Florida got worse today, but long -term, that deal favours them. Have a unicorn of a player locked up for 8ys @ 9.5mil. Can put up 100 points, play a rough game, and annoy the crap out of the opponent. Florida essentially got rid of a superstar who is 29 and on an expiring deal, and had to add to that (Weegar, prospect,1st) to get a 24 locked up long term. Calgary for being pretty hogtied here with a young star wanting out....did a great job to get one of the best players in the league and a solid top 4 D ++.
Calgary is gonna be trying very hard to make Huberdeau a rich man, and likely offer the captaincy. If Huberdeau stays in Calgary, they did an even better job here
