Not sure its a pipe dream. Obviously we would have to lock him up long term, Kerf and Nylanders salaries together equal Tkachuk's deal. We might have to move out Muzzin as well to round out the roster better.

Tkachuk is 1.5 years younger than Willy - we'd have to add. But I'd easily do at least Willy + 1st and lock him up for 7/70. Trade Kerfoot for a 2nd, Holl for a 3rd and Muzzin for a 4th.

Out: $18 mil in salary.
In: Tkachuk (10m)+Sandin (1.5)+Nino (4.5)+Subban (1): $17m in salary.

If we carry 21 guys instead of 23, this leaves us about 250k under the cap.

Imagine the insanity of a Tkachuk-Matthews-Marner line. And Bunting+Nino are the type of guys JT plays best with.

Zero chance we'd get Andersson as a throw-in

Edit: I DO like the trade idea, just sayin', Andersson is a great young player with team control

I gotta think lilly or knies would need to be involved so calgary can show people a real young player

Say nylander for andersson (remember under 5 for 4 years)

Then that for tkachuk.. 2 firsts and hopefully muzzin stays healthy but they have kylington, hanifin and zadorov. I dont see muzzin other than a cap exchange here. Kerfoot for 3rd winger.

Eric Francis predicting the end of Matthew Tkachuk in Calgary with the team elected arbitration. And throws in a stupid Auston Matthews prophecy/equivalency as well. Get a life.

If Calgary is blowing it up I’d pay a price that would make most other Leafs fans uncomfortable to get Tanev with 50% retention. Sandin, 1st +.

Reilly Tanev
Muzzin Brodie
Geo Liljegren

That’s an elite D

Elite D....when healthy. Tanev coming off shoulder surgery and has had his fair share of injuries over the years, and we all know Muzzin's history.

It's one or the other for me. Too much risk having both

Tkachuk plays RW.. so a crouse tavares tkachuk line would be quite interesting

Or crouse with M&M and bunting tavares tkachuk

Jesus that is a lot of money though and what are you paying crouse

It's even more money into a one line team. Even less money on defence.

They are less than 5 months apart in age.....why is that so funny?
Doubt anyone will give up a player like Kyrou for Tkachuk.

Not to mention, Kyrou has much more team control than Tkachukm

Just because we'd have the best line hockey has seen in a long time doesn't mean it'd make us a one-line team.

But the only question is, does it make us better now and in the future or not?

Just playing in Cap friendly.

Sign Sandin $2.25 x 3
Move out Holl, Muzzin, Kerfoot
Trade for JT Miller @ 50%, Schenn
Sign Stastny @ 1 year x $3 mil

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Nylander - Miller - Tavares
Engvall - Stastny - Jarnkrok
Robertson - Kampf - NAK
Malgin

Mo - Brodie
Gio - Lilj
Sandin - Schenn

Still have $1.7 mil in cap space.

I’d go for Miller and Schenn too, but that costs Sandin as part of the package.

I'm not sure. I think it's worth exploring but I think putting even more cap space into a forward when it's already a bit of an issue is going to hurt a lot more than you think long-term.

For next season it's probably an upgrade assuming Tkachuk plays like he did as opposed to the previous year. But it would be an all-in into this upcoming season because after that, it's going to cost a lot of depth.

At the end of the day, it's not going to happen. It's fun to think about though.

Does Kerfoot, Sandin, and our 1st get us close to Miller?
I dont know if it does but the funny thing is...when you ask Canucks fans what they want in return...they're literally looking for a Center and Defenseman

Kerfoot + Sandin + Prospects/picks......for JT Miller would be ideal.

JT Miller - Mathews - Marner
Knies - Tavares - Nylander

Thats a playoff top 6

Still trying to get my head around how the Caps were able to trade Vanecek for solid value but couldn't or didn't move Samsonov, and left him unqualified....

Vanecek is a year older but their brief career stats aren't too far off from each other. Samsonov had a slightly worse year this year but not drastic enough for such a difference in value.

Probably because Samsonov has arbitration rights and was looking at getting 3+ million via that route if qualified. Him signing for 1.8 suggest nobody wanted him at a 3 million number which is why nobody was willing to trade and pick for a qualify him. Vanecek was 0.012 sv% better this year which is an ocean for goalies. Different between league average and pretty terrible.

Some fans have disagreed on his worth, me included but time will tell how this season goes for him and what he's actually worth.
