If Calgary is blowing it up I’d pay a price that would make most other Leafs fans uncomfortable to get Tanev with 50% retention. Sandin, 1st +.

Reilly Tanev
Muzzin Brodie
Geo Liljegren

That’s an elite D

Francis is dreaming thinking the Flames could get Kyrou lool.

They've talked about 3 pieces in return like a 1st, good prospect and good roster player.

1st
Niemela
+??

and after that Kerfoot, Holl and Muzzin need to go if you're fitting a 9M guy.

Something I heard thrown out there was what if the Matthews camp wants to kick the can down the road to allow the cap to take a couple significant leaps before locking in that lifetime deal.
If for example Matthews wanted a 2-3 year extension at what he’s making now to maybe 12.5 that allows them to get a better hold of the landscape of the league post Covid.
I don’t think you could be upset about that as a leaf fan either as it essentially means they end up with the 7-8 year deal at his current cap hit in the end and can extend a massive lifetime deal once escrow is paid back and there’s a ~100m cap.

Why would you not have the right to be upset about that

A) he's going to have two reups in the timeframe of mcdavids deal of 8 years

B) it shows he only cares about money

If people don't think he's going to try to sign for the most at that 2/3 year deal you're kidding yourself unfortunately.

Unfortunately it'll all have trade protection so we can never get something for him he'll just pull the lebron and leave to whatever is good for his "brand" eventually

They will get significantly more then that

If the flames are indeed blowing it up, then I'm going after Rasmus Andersson hard. He's locked up for 4 more years at an aav of 4.55 million. He's be such a perfect partner for Rielly while adding some size and toughness to our team as well.

To Toronto-
Rasmus Andersson
Jakob Pelletier

To Calgary-
William Nylander
Rasmus Sandin

But the Leafs 100% could have done that within the rules. The problem with that scenario will always be, in 99% of cases, that the player wouldn’t want to assume that risk of delaying their long term payday by a year and potentially getting hurt or hard slumping, costing them significant amounts of money

Huh? The poster I was replying to was asking why the NHL doesn't allow for contract extensions to be legally in place more than one year before the end of thr contract.

NHL salaries are guaranteed so if they changed the rules to allow this they could sign an extension the same day they sign their original contract instead of waiting until the last year and potentially having an injury or a bad season.

That's why I don't think the NHL will ever change those rules.

Toews had an awful year and has injury concerns. Even at 50% retention he's likely not a good value for the Leafs.

Kerfoot, Muzzin, 2nd-3rd round pick for Toews at 50% retained and Murphy (full value)

Truthfully the smart play for Chicago is putting Kane and their next best player with Toews all year, inflate stats and then sell higher than they likely could now.

why do you keep trading william and getting worse pieces back every single time without fail.

I don't get it :/

Why Rasmussen when we already have Liljegren?

Why don't you throw in Matthews as well, and only then will it be a fair trade?:m-dance:
:surrender:joker::facepalm::damnpc:

Still trying to get my head around how the Caps were able to trade Vanecek for solid value but couldn't or didn't move Samsonov, and left him unqualified....

Vanecek is a year older but their brief career stats aren't too far off from each other. Samsonov had a slightly worse year this year but not drastic enough for such a difference in value.

That package is closer in value to Matthew Tkachuk himself than Rasmus Andersson and Pelletier.

You just hope this is someone else's turn to give away a Tuukka Rask.

Would you trade Nylander for one year of Matthew Tkachuk? Hmm we would still need to get rid of salary to fit him in. Probably a pipe dream.

Awww okay then I guess its a real pipe dream then. Too much salary. Plus all indications he wants to play in the USA. Too bad. If we were all in Dubas should be on the phone.
