If Sandin is actually gonna be on the block (I still doubt it)....than might as well use him in a package for JT Miller.

Sandin is an elite young player to get back for JT Miller from Vancouver's perspective. Throw in Kerfoot in the package too since he's from BC.

JT Miller - Mathews - Marner
Knies - Tavares - Nylander
Engvall - Jarnkrok - Bunting
XXX - Kampf - Kubel

(Yes i know Knies can't play immediately. Just thinking ahead to playoffs).
Nucks won’t be in for Sandin. They already have an undersized LD who can actually skate in Hughes.
They also got OEL as their 2nd pair.

Last spot there would be nice to have ZAR

Trade Kerfoot and sign Milano or someone else you think that fits with Tavares and Nylander for just under 2 million?

Heinen seems to make more sense to me than Milano, just in terms of fitting with those two at ES. Heinen doesn't bring special teams value, whereas Milano can play PP, but between Malgin/Robertson, Jarnkrok, Bunting, and Anderson on the 2nd unit, I am not sure there is really a need for another PP guy.

If we move Kerfoot, we can do one of the following I think:

- Sign Heinen to play at 2LW; 2 prospects on the flanks with Jarnkrok. Only possible if Heinen comes in at a reasonable price.
- Sign a shutdown guy with maybe a bit of physicality, like a Raffl, ZAR, Larsson, Motte, or Lammikko to put with Kampf and NAK. Engvall moves up with Jarnkrok and a prospect (Malgin, Anderson, Robertson, etc.). Anderson or Robertson play 2LW. Those shutdown guys should come at a number in the NAK range so we should be able to afford any of them.
- Similar to the other two options, except instead of signing a guy for 2LW or the shutdown line, you sign a guy who can compete with a prospect for a spot on Jarnkrok's wing similar to what we are doing with Malgin. This is where a Pitlick, Donato, Milano, Kuokannen, etc. can play in if they come at a cheap enough price. If they lose the training camp competition, they can either be dealt or put on waivers and are hopefully cleared to become high end depth for the Leafs on the Marlies.

In addition to moving Kerfoot, the Leafs should find a spot of Simmonds' choice through trade so he is not subjected to waivers. Worst case, he is either claimed on waivers or he can become the Marlies enforcer (alongside Clifford) since Clune has yet to re-sign and may be retiring.

I get the sense Dubas is going to start moving faster as these signings line up.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see a trade in the next 2 days and other signings occur.
been waiting since day one of FA... i think he's still waiting for some of the other signings to fall or trades that might be in the wire that haven't been announced. Usually what happens with negotiation periods for sure.

That is how much money I think he has to sign Sandin and another guy. I don't think he needs to trade Holl if he doesn't get the right offer, and unless he really likes Subban/Stralman or wants to get Sandin in the top 6 full time with Muzzin and Giordano also there, there are not really any options in UFA to replace Holl. Marino is on the trade market as a RD, but he comes at 4.4 mill too.

All-in-all, if we move Kerfoot (and I think Jarnkrok is just the writing on the wall there), we have a ton of flexibility with what we do next.

Trade Sandin + Holl for a D on an ELC who is mid tier, sign Stastny to a ~3 million deal?

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot - Tavares - Jarnkrok
Holmberg - Stastny - Nylander
Engvall - Kampf - NAK

Rielly - Liljegren
Muzzin - Brodie
Gio - ELC

This works by like 100k if Engvall signs for the same contract (likely doesn't work because he will get a raise)

We don't have the cap space for him. Pretty interesting that he's still unsigned, I can't help but wonder if he's just asking for more than anyone's willing to pay.

I hope they make him happy somehow then, I do NOT want to lose Sandin.
RFA... and no arbitration rights... he's going to have to play for their number... within reason.

I'm on the JT Miller at 50 percent retained train.

Sandin, Kerfoot, 1st round pick, SDA for JT Miller

Holl for a pick

Sign Subban for 1-2 million

On one hand, I agree. On the other, I do believe Sandin becomes a quality top 4 on a good team. But he can bet on himself elsewhere with those demands.
.398 to .318 per gm not that big of a difference. 6.5 points over 82 games

Last I looked at Cap friendly Engvall was still RFA, did I miss something?

Here is an idea if we move Holl and Kerfoot
