Sign Blum and bring back Eminger as a training camp invite. Have Falk, Blum and Eminger battle it out for the 7 spot. A little competition never hurt anyone.

What about Michael Ryder? legit shot, Pp production, wonder what he's looking for. If we could move anyone on the bottom 6 could maybe fit him in?

Does Blum have a good shot? Can he help the powerless play?

Yes and yes. He's not Chara but he can shoot effectively.

I'm not a Nashville Predator's expert. But that place isn't exactly churning out high offensive productivity.

Blum is a great skater and has skill. He can shoot. If he blows then it won't matter because there isn't much risk involved.

I'd keep all three, to be honest. Sign them to cheap two way deals. One or maybe even two of them would go to the AHL. But injuries are bound to happen.

I believe Falk in on a one way. The other two could be signed to two way deals. D dept would be:

McD
Staal
Girardi
MDZ
Moore
Stalman
Falk
Blum
Eminger
McI
Bickel

That's the point. A Jagr in decent shape in the playoffs would be great for this team.

And I don't know about "overplaying" Cally and Nash both of them plays around 20 minutes most games, Callahan often well above 20. Like I said those two will get top minutes, having around 20 left for Dorsett and Jagr. In fact with Jagr here we could play Callahan a bit less.

Jagr wasn't in decent shape this past year in the finals...and that's with all the advantages I mentioned he had playing for the Bruins. To think the Rangers would have him in better shape when Jagr is a year older is extremely difficult to believe.

I'm just going to disagree with all of your logic here.

He would be a good depth signing. Very physical, has a good shot from the point.

Agree, and with ties to A.V., might consider a lesser deal to sign here and be comfortable in the system from the get go. Or he could possibly hate A.V. and not even consider it. ...

No he looked pretty worn out I have to admit but I've never said his condition would get better here over a full season, that's not reasonable. However the old man can still play and was good for the Bruins.

blum was abused by Ryan Kesler in a playoff series in 2011 and hasn't been the same. maybe he can get his career back on track with the Rangers, he should be the #1 FA target.

Tom Gilbert buyout process will begin with #mnwild

Might be best D on FA market now besides Scuderi.

Buffalo puts Nathan Gerbe on waivers

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
Buyout waivers: Gerbe (BUF) Colaiacovo (DET).

Gilbert is not a bad player at all, just think if he came here he'd be Rozy 2.0 and would become the whipping boy within games. Pretty solid all around, just not good enough at any one thing.

Agreed. He had a rough season last year, but has been generally a solid, yet unspectacular defender.

Also it's funny how they used him to lure in Ryan Suter and gets bought out one year later.

Gerbe is intriguing. Small, water-bug type player but he has some skill and he is tenacious all over the ice.

I like Weber as well who was not qualified. Very good on the PP and moving the puck.

Jeremy Rutherford ‏@jprutherford

#stlblues announce they've re-signed defenseman Jordan Leopold to a two-year extension.

Jeremy Rutherford ‏@jprutherford

Leopold's deal is $4.5 million over 2 years ($2.25 AAV)

Another D off the market

In fairness to Ed Snider, if you squint really hard at the name Lecavalier, it sort of looks like Lidstrom.

if I'm the Rangers (again JMO) I forego signing Zucc and put that money towards signing Ryder 3.5-4M) on a short term deal. legit shot, power play production, top 6 winger, goal scorer, would play pretty well IMO with Stepan/Richards or Brass feeding him the puck.

If Sather could get Mcdonagh on 4.5, Hagelin around 2, and Stepan at 3.5 or less, this works.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic. But saying they definitely won't trade him is an assumption. It isn't fact.

Del Zotto will also command a large contract soon and the Rangers will need forward depth moving forward. Top six depth. Eventually teams trade from positions of strength.

If you really believe trading Del Zotto isn't a possibility then I don't know what to tell you. Folks thought Gaborik wasn't going anywhere.

McDonagh and Staal will ALWAYS play above Del Zotto as long as they are on this team. Del Zotto is awful on the right side. You want a potential 4+ cap hit on the third pair? John Moore can fill that role at a fraction of the cost.

There is no way to definitively say they won't trade him.

As far as Richards goes, yea they said they won't buy him out this summer. The topic i was responding to was about putting him on the wing. What would be the point of keeping him on the roster at that point. His value isn't as a winger. If he's put there its because he isnt getting the job done, he's ineffective, and needs to go. Rangers lack NHL ready depth down the middle, keep Richards' 6.6 cap hit to put him on the wing?

I agree with the last portion regarding Richards. I think he should be here playing center in the top 6. If management did not think he could do that then he should've been bought out. For some reason I am optimistic that Richards will come back next year ready to prove everyone wrong. Maybe it's because of his exit interviews and comments.

However, you cannot compare MDZ to Gaborik's situation. It is not the same. Gaborik is on the wrong side of 30 with a $7.5 million dollar cap hit. The Rangers needed that room. They were able to fill out the roster with 3 players by dealing his cap. And I am a huge Gaborik fan. I knew that was the move to be made. Del Zotto on the other hand is making $2.5 million next year. He will obviously get a raise. But if you have McDonagh signing for around $5 million and you have Staal making less than $5, then I see Del Zotto around $3.5-$4.25 in his next contract depending on how he plays. That is an affordable contract for this organization moving forward in 2014-2015.

McDonagh will be in the $4.5-$5.5 range.

Stepan will be in the $4-4.5 range.

That is the reality of what they will command given how much they produce vs their teammates contracts that make more and produce less and/or have less value based on age, potential, and position.

I think they might get a bit less with the lower cap.

Nathan Horton visiting an NHL team/city today. He'll end up with a non-traditional hockey market I think. Wants quieter life

Nashville? Florida?
