I'd gladly take Jagr back. Give him limited minutes to keep him fresh as the season goes on.

Yes, and yes. But I doubt the Rangers actually want to go to arbitration. They could elect it and then try to work out a long term deal. McD could also elect arbitration.

I doubt the Rangers want to go to arbitration but it would stop a team from offer sheeting McD. It's amazing to me that Friedman, Brooks, etc don't bring up McD arb rights when they talk about another team trying to sign him. Rangers can elect arbitration and negotiate until the hearing and hopefully get a long term deal done.

Few guys who weren't tendered

Peckham...another depth D man who plays with snarl...he would come cheap...

Fistric is also UFA...

Colton Teubert is another name..former 1st rounder...plays a tough game...still young...maybe Bueke can get more out of him...

Keaton Ellerby

Anton Khudobin...would make a hard push for this guy but we have no space...I bet the Islanders scope him up

Thomas McCollum might be worth a look...maybe Benny can straighten out

Jack Skille.

if Sather is smart, which he isn't...there are some guys who can help out there that wont cost much.

I would take Ellerby or Peckham for sure.

Boston had depth on D. Seidenberg and Ference were hurt. Bartkowski and Krug stepped in. Krug destroyed the Rangers. He was ordinary against Pitt and Chicago. Chara. Seidenberg. Boychuk. McQuaid. Ference. Krug. Hamilton. Bartkowski. That's 8. Krug and Bartkowski were called up from the AHL. McDonagh. Girardi. Staal(health). Del Zotto. Moore. Stralman. Falk. That's 7. Syvret is an AHL player. Gordie Clark said the Rangers plan for McIlrath is to assign him to the AHL and have him play major minutes. Re-evalaute at Christmas. Unless McIlrath wins a job out of camp, that the plan. McIlrath. Syvret. Noreau. Allen. Hughes. Bickel. They need 1 or 2 more additions for the AHL team.

Trade for Jonathon Blum's rights.

How much could it possibly cost? Low risk - high reward kind of move. He wont break the bank with a high cap hit.

Blum would give them 8 NHL defensemen.

McDonagh
Girardi
Staal
Del Zotto
Stralman
Moore
Blum
Falk

Nash and Callahan (when healthy) will play a ton under AV just like with Torts, let them take a shift for Jagr here and there.

With Callahan's injury history (and importance to the team) you don't want to be overplaying him to make up for an old guy who can't take a regular shift. The playoffs (and Finals) have taught us the Rangers need to roll four lines more than they did last year, not less.

I've been saying the same, except, and correct me if I'm wrong, he wasn't given a QO and will hit the market...which would be a cheap scoop up on our end, that would be a smart move IMO.

Also, would LOVE Fistric or Peckham on a cheap tip.

Blum is a UFA. Same with Weber from MTL, who would be another solid depth option. Good puck mover, great on the PP point.

Be a sarcastic ******* all you want. Or you can read some of the reports/articles RB has been posting the past couple days about the salary cap in the upcoming years based on what the owners and GMs are saying. You want to keep dreaming of richards being bought out (even though the team has stated he is staying) and del zotto being dealt (even though he is still here after the draft) then so be it. Del Zotto is our best offensive defenseman while being 23 years old and doing it in a defensive minded system; and on a good contract. What isn't adding up for you because it really is simple math.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic. But saying they definitely won't trade him is an assumption. It isn't fact.

Del Zotto will also command a large contract soon and the Rangers will need forward depth moving forward. Top six depth. Eventually teams trade from positions of strength.

If you really believe trading Del Zotto isn't a possibility then I don't know what to tell you. Folks thought Gaborik wasn't going anywhere.

McDonagh and Staal will ALWAYS play above Del Zotto as long as they are on this team. Del Zotto is awful on the right side. You want a potential 4+ cap hit on the third pair? John Moore can fill that role at a fraction of the cost.

There is no way to definitively say they won't trade him.

As far as Richards goes, yea they said they won't buy him out this summer. The topic i was responding to was about putting him on the wing. What would be the point of keeping him on the roster at that point. His value isn't as a winger. If he's put there its because he isnt getting the job done, he's ineffective, and needs to go. Rangers lack NHL ready depth down the middle, keep Richards' 6.6 cap hit to put him on the wing?

It would be nice if more of our bottom 6 could skate better than most guys in a senior beer league. That should really be looked into. Boyle adds enough other stuff to be overlooked but Pyatt and Asham dont.

Once upon a time Anton Stralman was banished from Columbus (of all places) and wasn't given a job on the Devils in training camp.

Sometimes players need a decent situation to be in. Blum could end up getting a shot and sticking. If he doesn't then oh well.

It would be a very smart move to pick him up.

Right handed, very good skater, offensive upside. 25 years old.

That's the point. A Jagr in decent shape in the playoffs would be great for this team.

And I don't know about "overplaying" Cally and Nash both of them plays around 20 minutes most games, Callahan often well above 20. Like I said those two will get top minutes, having around 20 left for Dorsett and Jagr. In fact with Jagr here we could play Callahan a bit less.

I think almost any guy who can give any minutes would do well on the Rangers, Hank would make him look better than he is, not to mention the guy he would be paired with

Agree 100%.

And over spending on garbage veteran UFAs to fill up the bottom six is not tge smart thing to do.

Miller, Lindberg, Fast, Kristo

Those should be the guys to fill the bottom six as they start their NHL careers.

Blackhawks had how many young kids in the bottom six? Didnt stop them from winning.

No McLeod, Nystrom, Raymond, Lappierre... No Powe, Asham, Pyatt.

Go cheap, go young, go hungry, go fast and skilled.

id love Peckham and Fristic but NYR just traded for Falk.... maybe if Eminger wont be back they might sign anothe defenseman. i wouldnt mind Skille. adds some size and grit.. a reclaimation project that I can see Sather having interest in... cant be worse than Pyatt or Powe on the 4th line.. a bit younger and cheaper.

Thats pretty much what we do with Girardi! :sarcasm:

Sorry I dont wanna start another girardi fight but it was right there I had to :P
