if I'm the Rangers (again JMO) I forego signing Zucc and put that money towards signing Ryder 3.5-4M) on a short term deal. legit shot, power play production, top 6 winger, goal scorer, would play pretty well IMO with Stepan/Richards or Brass feeding him the puck.

If Sather could get Mcdonagh on 4.5, Hagelin around 2, and Stepan at 3.5 or less, this works.

Yes, let's get rid of the young, improving Zuccarello for an aging one trick pony.

McDonagh will be in the $4.5-$5.5 range.

Stepan will be in the $4-4.5 range.

That is the reality of what they will command given how much they produce vs their teammates contracts that make more and produce less and/or have less value based on age, potential, and position.

I disagree, not with Sather but that's just me. I see McD max at 4.5, Stepan 3.5. Step produced as a 1c for only half a season +

I'm not advocating it, but the one trick pony does a trick this team sorely needs. I've been mentioning Ryder for a while now. Love to have them both.

Yeah, I wouldn't be opposed to a Ryder signing in and of itself, but if he leads to Zuccarello not being retained, I wouldn't be interested.

At least getting rid of Zuccarello is different idea than the others we've heard so far. I still think Zuccarello has to show more.

If by New York you mean New York Islanders, I could actually see Horton going there. It's a perfect fit.

The Rangers are in a quieter market than the Bruins are in, is what I was implying.

But he will not sign here. No illusions (or even desires) on that.

2013-2014 Roster

Looks like our roster will pretty much stay the same for next year. And after these 3 "minor" trades, I am really like the direction of the roster spaces. I love the new coach so far though he has a lot to prove to NY. I like that hes bringing in 2 bench assistants, and I like that Ulf is one of them. The other... ehhhhh I am getting bummed out a bit because I hear he had issues with Brassard but business is business. I like that the advanced stats are coming into play and we might even be getting a few more assistant coaches, one of which who will be in the stands watching the game like a coordinator. I love the creativity.

What do you think the line ups will be like... I think all of our RFA get resigned as well. And hank stays...

From what Sather has said, it sounds like they want to have some competition in Camp for some spots. As of now, without any signings, they have (2) spots open on the wings.

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
MZA-Brassard-Callahan
_____-Richards-______
Pyatt-Boyle-Dorsett
Powe, Asham

It would be great for them to replace Pyatt with a player more suited to that role and then allow players like Hrivik, Miller, Kreider, Kristo, Fast, Lindberg, Mashinter, Haley the opportunity to push for spots in camp.

The only problem I could see would be Callahan and Hagelin's injuries to start the season would create too many spots for rookies to start the season.

If they could trade Pyatt for McLeod or someone like him and sign (1) depth winger who can bring some offense, say Raymond or Ryder, I think that would be ideal.

Start of the season:
Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Zuccarello-Brassard-Fast/Kristo/Miller
Raymond-Richards-Fast/Kristo/Miller
McLeod-Boyle-Dorsett

Hagelin and Callahan return and they remove (2) of the rookies from the line-up. Zuccarello can play either wing. There will be other injuries as the year goes on.

Despite Ryder's inconsistency, I was never against signing him. Just wanted to point it out.

Ryder's goals have tended to come in bunches. Then again, with his offensive abilities, if he was consistent, he'd also be one of the best goal scorers in the game. Just seems like the type of player Rangers fans get really frustrated over.

Hard to tell considering there is still FA frenzy and trades to come before the season, but I think roster shakes out as this going by AV's gameplan

Richards-Stepan-Nash
Hagelin-Brassard-Zuccarello
Pyatt-Boyle-Callahan
Dorsett-Powe-Asham
Kreider

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Stralman
Moore-MDZ
Eminger
Falk

Lundqvist
Biron

Wouldn't mind him, but I don't see a roster spot for him.

No Clowe?

And what is that lineup "ideal" for, exactly?

The Rangers forward corps are dreadful outside of Stepan and Nash. Too many question marks surrounding the rest of the roster.

 You do realize that those two statements are pretty opposed to each other, right?

If there were so many question marks, we could absolutely find a spot for Ryder in the lineup. As it is, I think the problem is going to be more one of cap space.
