I am probably the only one who thinks this but I with the cap space situation and our current and pending free agents, I would prefer to keep Powe, Asham, and Pyatt. Are they perfect players? Of course not! I am no means a hockey expert but I thought Asham played extremely well in the playoffs. Asham at 1 million dollars is not a problem. Powe, is a solid player. He seemed to be a good penalty killer, energy type guy but there is only a small sample size to monitor and Taylor Pyatt struggled some in the regular season. I thought he was one of the better players in the playoffs. Besides all that, the cap hit for all three is is around 3.6 - 3.7 million - for all three players. And finally, they are all off the books in 2014-15. Just my humble opinion. If you trade them, you are likely signing players to more expensive, longer deals.

Trade them and replace them from within. Maybe get 1 UFA who you think fits the system and that's it.

You need at least 9 capable NHL d-men heading into a season.

I wouldn't say 9, but definitely 7 on the roster and at least 1 in the AHL who can come up and fill a 3rd pair role with protected minutes.

Staal, McD, Girardi, MDZ, Moore, Stralman, Falk on the roster and McI and Bickel in Hartford.

Bickel should not count. They need to sign 1 more d-man. Eminger would be fine.

Seriously. how many defensemen do we need lol. Are we trying to become the opposite of the Flyers?

the more defense the Rangers bring in, the less chance of Rangers dressing Stu Bickel :yo: players do get hurt, especially in training camp and exhibition.. NHL depth on defense is a must in today's NHL...

keyword "capable"... Mcdonagh, Staal, Girardi, Moore, Del Zotto, Stralman.thats 6 starters, if you sign Scuderi, one of him or DZ play the 7th D? thats a freaking waste of cap space and talent. We have Falk who is "capable", and can bring back Eminger. I just don't see the point of making any of Moore/Scuderi/Del Zotto a 7th Dman.

One of the Rangers brass said you need 9 a couple of days ago in an interview about Falk. I think it was Schoenfield. If you include Bickel, we have 9. I'd like to see them bring in another RD here. I don't want to include Bickel unless forced to.

Sure seems like that but our 3rd pairing situation has been dicey for a while...

Saying that I'd still move mdz for the right deal. ..

so depth chart at F before going into negotiating with UFA's is in no order

Nash, Stepan, Callahan
Zuccarello, Richards, Kreider
Hagelin, Brassard, Dorsett
Asham, Boyle, Pyatt
Powe, Miller, Kristo
Fast, Lindberg, Hrvik
Mashinter, Haley

Think some moves are coming up front even if its just small and ideally moving out a guy like Pyatt, Powe

I am personally fine with the current D as is and of course G. Still think DZ for a RD may happen to balance things out though.

yea and the team doesnt either which is why we saw Newbury for Syvret..........a guy like Syvrey is the depth they want in the AHL. Plus McIlrath may be closer and he stinks but Bickel has NHL experience and they are stuck with him for another yr

I really wanted to improve the bottom 6 this summer, but it's less feasible now with Richards coming back.

It's always good to have healthy competition in training camp, so might as well have Asham, Powe, and Pyatt battle it out for spots with the young ones. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if one or two of them ended up being spare forwards, we could use the depth. If Asham is no longer effective, I could see him being traded like Rupp was.

I still want Powe, Pyatt and Ashram moved with Raymond and Nystrom brought it.

Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Hagelin - Richards - MZA
Raymond - Brassard - Callahan
Nystrom - Boyle - Dorsett

McD - Girardi
Staal - MDZ
Moore - Stralman
Falk

Viper - if someone from within beats them out for the job, I am fine with it. However there are two challenges here. Finding a partner. No one is going to do the Rangers a favor and take on players and give back draft picks / prospects. If you were to move them, it'd probably be at the deadline - assuming that the Rangers are out of it. They may need them for there own playoff run:handclap::handclap:

Again, my feeling is all due to the cap space. If Glen works his magic and can get long term value for them, I would be fine. But realistically, we would likely have to take back a contract or replace them with a UFA that is longer in years.

So Viper, I don;t disagree. I think maybe the fan base has a bit of buyers envy where we are seeing teams make trades and open cap space and we say "why not us". Meanwhile, we have (Richards, Nash, Clowe at the deadline). Teams probably envied us. It hasn't worked out (especially with Clowe) but who knows? Maybe this team surprises?

Boston had depth on D. Seidenberg and Ference were hurt. Bartkowski and Krug stepped in. Krug destroyed the Rangers. He was ordinary against Pitt and Chicago. Chara. Seidenberg. Boychuk. McQuaid. Ference. Krug. Hamilton. Bartkowski. That's 8. Krug and Bartkowski were called up from the AHL. McDonagh. Girardi. Staal(health). Del Zotto. Moore. Stralman. Falk. That's 7. Syvret is an AHL player. Gordie Clark said the Rangers plan for McIlrath is to assign him to the AHL and have him play major minutes. Re-evalaute at Christmas. Unless McIlrath wins a job out of camp, that the plan. McIlrath. Syvret. Noreau. Allen. Hughes. Bickel. They need 1 or 2 more additions for the AHL team.

I'd agree with that, but we aren't going to carry 8 on the roster, and one needs to be a dman that is good enough to play on the 3rd pair, but we are okay with scratching if everyone else is healthy. The other 2 need to be in Hartford.

Do we re-sign Eminger and keep him as the 7th, then send Falk to Hartford? Falk is only 24 and hasn't played in the AHL since 2010-11. Or do we find an older AHL/NHL tweener to play in Harford and keep Falk as the 7th?

Jesse Spector? What did he say?

He put out a list of his top 25 free agents. He had Jagr at 9 and wrote this.

It may not be feasible with New York’s cap structure, but picture Jagr playing in Alain Vigneault’s zone-matching system. He would only see Henrik Lundqvist at practice… and he might just provide the necessary boost to that legendarily stinky power play.

I'd bring Jagr back. 35 pts in 45 games in the reg. season. No goals (result of some bad luck) but 10 assists in the playoffs. Thing is, he needs time off. He looked worn out by the Final vs. Chicago, granted though, that Boston was giving him a ton of ice time with Bergeron and Marchand. You can't keep switching him in and out during the season, so I would honestly just sit him the last 2-3 weeks if the playoffs start to seem like a sure thing.

At this point his is what he is. 50 - 60 pts in the regular season and you get what you get in the playoffs. The team needs offense and he would provide that. On nights when he has his legs under him, he can still be dominant.

Can the Rangers say they are taking McD to arbitration on Friday? Wouldn't that stop the offer sheet talk?

Yes, and yes. But I doubt the Rangers actually want to go to arbitration. They could elect it and then try to work out a long term deal. McD could also elect arbitration.

Pass on Jagr.

After a tough series against Toronto, the Bruins had to play only nine games against us and Pittsburgh in basically a month before the finals. The games against the Penguins were pretty much walkovers.

Jagr should have been rested and ready to go for the finals...but he wasn't. He looked old and tired. And this is on a deep Boston team that rolled four lines.

Things would be worse on the Rangers, and Jagr will be another year older. Pass as fast as possible.
