You are right. It is late and I worked all day.

Kreider-Step-Nash
Richie-Brass-Jagr

I don't know where to put Zucc. I don't know if Cally and/or Hagelin will be ready for the beginning of the season.

Yep. Back to the same problem. Either Zucc is playing on the top line, or he is playing on the 4th line.

Strange how this always ends up this way. Maybe you hope he starts out really well then trade him for someone who can play on any line.

And they still have Pyatt, Asham, and Powe to find places for

AV has his work cut out for him.. I do believe we have some good talent to create offense, we just have a mismatch of all kinds of styles that he's gonna have to see what works. good thing there is a camp this year.

I know Zucc is not gonna make much money, but if we can bring someone else in using part of his money who can play in multiple lines maybe thats a better idea? who knows lol

Also if Richards plays like total poo again it fixes the lines pretty easily

Hags, Stepan, Nash
Kreider, Brass, Zucc
Miller, Boyle/Lindberg, Cally
Bum (Asham, Pyatt, Powe), Lindberg/Boyle, Dorsett

Powe can't be a part of this team. He needs to go. Pyatt as well. Just no room. I think you see those two traded after training camp after they are beat out by younger kids.

Asham I like as the 13th. But I don't know how that would sit with him. He played well in the playoffs, was disappointed he was scratched at the end of the Boston series. It was stupid quite frankly.

Zucc is the underlying issue. I like him but I don't know where he fits so that you can get the most out of him without him being a liability for the role he is supposed to be filling.

I just like what Jagr can offer with his size, vision, board work, and strength

I definitely agree with the bolded statement.

Well Jagr and Zucc have the same problem, don't fit as a defensive player, so tied to a top 6 spot. Maybe you just have Zucc, Jagr, and Kreider split wing spots on the top two lines, but it means one less D you can dress.

There are really two problems with the lineup, one is the Zucc thing, the other is that brass and Richards are essentially the same person at this point. Neither is a good skater, neither is good on face offs or defensively, so neither fits well on a 3rd line, and neither have size, so they don't fit as a 4th liner either.

Stepan on the other hand could play on all four lines, but he's also the best offensively.

What a mess.

And don't get me wrong, I do love Jagr, but seeing as he needs low minutes, but isn't capable defensively, I'm just not sure how you integrate him into the lines. Do you dress a guy that only plays 5 minutes a game, but all of those are top 6 or even all PP minutes?

He still has those attributes. I know he didn't lool as quick but he was good with Bergeron and Marchand.

He started off great with Dallas. I think it didn't help that he had more responsibility there especially with Whitney going down. Jamie Benn held out the first couple weeks. It was Jagr's offense there with Loui Eriksson.

Reduced role I think he can really help this team and it would be a 1 year deal.

Jagr looked shot in playoffs. Don't want him.

I disagree with this.. I mean he would get tired early if thats what you mean?.. but he was noticeable when he was on the ice, he was always around the puck and creating chances for himself and others.

I think Brassard is a little more capable than that. I don't think his skating was that bad. But I agree there are similar players in the lineup.

Jagr trains as hard as anyone. I think he can give you 12-14 minutes a night depending on the situation. I'd rather give Jagr the spot and find room for Zucc than vice versa

He did absolutely nothing against Rangers. At times I forgot he was even with Bruins. Didn't do much in other series.

I also disagree. Yes he was tired at times but not the whole playoffs. He created chances. If you were expecting the stamina, endurance, and production of an 18 year old Jagr or the one in his prime then yeah he should retire. But if you see Jagr for what he is now and understand he can still offer certain things to help win then he was effective for Boston

The only thing I can think of is if they put Boyle on the 3rd line wing with Brassard playing C so that Boyle can take the draws, something like...

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Kreider-Richards-Zuccarrello
Boyle-Brassard-Callahan
Pyatt Miller-Dorsett.
Asham/Powe = 13th

shrug

What if you put Stepan on the 3rd line. It means separating him from Nash, but if Richards can regain any sort of ability at all it may work.

Kreider, Richards, Nash
Hags, Brass, Zucc (still tiny?)
Miller, Stepan, Cally
Bum, Boyle, Dorsett

3rd line I would figure would get nearly as much playing time as the top line in this sort of setup

Honestly, if Richards performs well in camp and pre season like they expect him to, then I could definitely see Stepan in the shut down role, and you're right that line would still get alot of time if for no other reason than Callahan being on it:laugh:

I just don't see Miller being up with the big club to log 4th line minutes. I also don't think AV will roll all 4 lines consistently. Maybe he does, I haven't read that about him yet though maybe he does. If he did wouldn't be as bad having Miller center the 4th line. Miller is rough and tumble kid too. Wouldn't be awful having him with Dorsett.

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Hagelin-Richards-Jagr
Boyle-Brassard-Cally
Zucc-Miller/UFA-Dorsett

Jagr IS close to shot, he'll still be effective for a team but he's really slowed down and any time he got stuck out there too long he was a liability. Time to move on.

If Richards can play LW, what's the need for getting one more top 6er?

Richards-Stepan-Nash
Hagelin-Brassard-Callahan
Zuccarello-Boyle-Dorsett
Pyatt-Powe-Asham

That bottom 6 is brutal. Looks like Henrik's going to have to win games 1-0 again

I'm sure I'm not reading the exact wording of the CBA correctly, but anyone who is in the know about these things, I'd love to know if this is right.

Assume Richards plays here until the final 3 seasons of his contract, the years at 1 Million in salary. If he is traded to a cap floor team, and they buy him out with a normal buyout, they take a 6 million cap hit for 3 years and a 333,333 cap hit for 3 years while only paying out 2 million over 6 years, a benefit to them in some cases. Do the Rangers still get stuck with the Cap benefit recapture penalty?

I'm terrible at understanding the legalese this CBA is written in, but it seems to only mention if the player is retiring early or leaving for another league. I imagine this isn't a loophole that's been left open, but it confused me.

jagrs ego wouldn't allow 3rd line role.

I'm getting kinda tired of hearing this crap about his ego. Jagr is not the same immature being he was about a decade ago when he was with the Caps. He really is far from egotistical. So regardless of where he would play, he certainly is not selfish, stubborn, or egocentric anymore.

that's fine. the team's thoroughbred is goaltending and defense.

And that is the problem. This organization has continually ignored offensive depth. Tortorella leaned on a defensive system because of the personnel he had. They lost to the devils in the ECF because of not having 4 formidable lines. They need more offensive depth. If their defense and goaltending is that good then they would focus more on offense.
