jagr looked done in the playoffs. he is so slow and an 82 season grind is just gonna make him useless towards the end of the season and playoffs.

Like I've said before, Jagr looked slow in the playoffs his last year with us and this was almost 6 years ago

How do you know that about Jagr. How can you be so sure of that with his age. He could very well be in a top 9 role next year.

Right, Jagr would love to come play on a defensive line for the rangers. Let me know how that works in fantasyland

I'm sure its complete speculation from them, but the Lightning fans on the main board seem to think Connolly might be available because of them drafting Drouin he may be the odd man out.. They severely need defense. prob wishful thinking lol

Less ice time and a reduced role on the 3rd line could get the most out of Jagr.

I believe you are still not understanding how the lineup will work.

First and second lines are offensive lines

Third line is for shutdown defense, and defensive zone draws.

Fourth line is the energy line.

In what planet does Jagr fit well as a wing on a defensive line, Dzone face off line? He doesn't fit there at all.

He would need to be on one of the top 2 lines

Hagelin-X-Callahan

One piece away from forming a 3rd/2B line that's great defensively, works the forecheck, and can pot 15 goals each (though Callahan might get more from the PP). Gosh darn when is the last time we had one of these?

I guess it's Boyle for now but I'd so much rather have him on the 4th line. He's built to be a perfect 4th liner but looks so out of place in the top 9.

Then maybe you can package Zuccarello and MDZ for an upgrade and RW so that Callahan can slot down comfortably. And I've said before I do believe Cally is a top 6 player and Hagelin is right there too but dammit I want depth. I don't want a top 6, I want a top 9.

That's interesting. Because we can't have two 2nd/3rd type lines? I'd consider a line of Hagelin-UFA/Lindberg-Callahan to be the defensive line. We reject everyone even if they will come on a cheaper contract because they don't fit in perfectly here. You have to improve the offense and if you can without spending a lot you do it.

Thank you for showing me the light. Your answer is below.

Hagelin-X-Cally is your shutdown line as it should be.

lol but at least he was still productive 6 years ago. he was not good in the playoffs for boston.

Yeah he pushed himself though it and managed to grab a couple of big goals for us. That's why Jagr is still temping to me because people talk about him having an ego and not willing to be in a reduced role and all this other **** but the guy's a warrior on the ice. It killed him that he wasn't scoring. Still, I have to say no to Jagr.

I'd say put Brassard there because Callahan and Hagelin could compensate for the lack of d, but you need someone to take the draws. ugh.

Love the idea of moving Richie to LW, I say we sign a Nystrom/LaPierre to split the 3C/4C job with Boyle and have some younger guys try to take Asham and Powe's places.. I think Dorsett should be on the 4th line if that line is set as the energy line.

I'm rejecting anyone that doesn't help the team. And Jagr on a line designed to shut down the opposing top line and take defensive draws would certainly not be a positive.

And no, having two defensive lines doesn't help at all, because then you have LESS offense.

The third line is not supposed to be an offense generating line

And I still think we need another big, tough guy. Not a goon, but a guy who will deter thuggery and shenanigans. I'm hoping we give McIlrath a serious look and if not I guess Mashinter will get another look. As it stands, this team is ripe to be pushed around. Dorsett is a good checker, a great pest, and a serviceable middleweight fighter, but he's not big enough to play security guard.

I'm STILL pissed about Douchoretty's hit on McDonagh in Montreal.

The 3rd line shouldn't produce offense? That has been our damn problem for the past several seasons.

Hagelin-Lindber/UFA-Cally is your shutdown line that produces offense.

Zucc-Brass-Jagr is your 2nd offensive line.

This is exactly the issue, Richards and Brassard are not going to work on the 3rd line at all, which means one of the two will have to play wing.

Lindberg/Miller can hopefully win a job as the 3rd line guy. But I think Boyle will take that job as he is certainly the best face off guy.

Lindbergh as a 4th liner isn't terrible though. And I believe you need two centers on that third line.

So for me the lineup is

Kreider, Stepan, Nash
Richards, Brass, Zucc
Miller, Boyle, Cally
Hags, Lindberg, Dorsett

The biggest problem is how tiny that 2nd line is. But maybe you swap Zucc and Kreider? If you play Pyatt on that 2nd line where do you play Zucc? The 4th line?

There was an article I read in the post where Mcilrath says his knee will be healed 100% by training camp and he's looking to make an impact and believes he can make the team next year.

Offense is secondary to defense for the 3rd line. And if that is the second line where are you playing Richards?

I dont like that 2nd line., or Hagelin on the 4th line, I think thats a waste with him. IF Richards did move to the wing. I'd move I'd move Zucc to the energy line, Hags to the 1st line to play with Nash and Stepan since that line was great for us last year, and have Kreider on the other side of Richards and Brass so that the 2nd line is not so small, no problem with the 3rd line.

Kreider-Richards-Nash.

We are keeping richards. We are basically taking that leap of faith with him. We don't have much cap space to add a guy that pushes Richards down in the lineup. Jagr will sign a 1 year deal. You can put Richie with Jagr but that line would be too slow. Put faster wingers with Richie.

So you made a lineup of the top 3 lines and Stepan isn't on any of them. I believe we are done here

Zucc bothers me on the 4th line though, he is not a great skater or forechecker. He's more or a pest who has very good vision.

This team is very much a mishmash of players and styles. They need some sort of cohesion

You are right. It is late and I worked all day.

Kreider-Step-Nash
Richie-Brass-Jagr

I don't know where to put Zucc. I don't know if Cally and/or Hagelin will be ready for the beginning of the season. It wouldn't be bad to have Zucc on the 3rd line wing until we are fully healthy.
