richards has played LW before. he probably should move there as his skating was not good enough for a center this past season.

If Richards can play LW, what's the need for getting one more top 6er?

Richards-Stepan-Nash
Hagelin-Brassard-Callahan
Zuccarello-Boyle-Dorsett
Pyatt-Powe-Asham

with richards staying we wont even have the cap space to get a winger anyways.

Both are better on the move IMO. I'd like to find a 220+ pound guy who is a rock in front, doesn't need a great goal total (10 or so a season is fine) but is completely willing to battle in front all game.

Chicago has Bickel to do it, flyers have simmonds, blues have Stewart, etc etc. don't think those guys have tremendous value unless they are really special, teams tend to value guys who can skate more. But I do think adding one could make the offense more potent. Don't think you want to waste a guy who can move(like a nash or kreider) by parking him

With Nash, I agree.

I have no clue what type of player Kreider is. Sniper or PWF type?

Agreed. Briere was horribrutal last year, Stalberg is meh, Jagr is 84, Raymond is Hagelin-lite, Clarkson is streakier than the weather. There's nothing out there.

I'd like to know what is wrong with signing one of Briere, Jagr, Raymond, Stalberg to play 3rd line minutes if you can get them on a good contract. We need more depth offensively for AV to work with. I anticipate one of those 4 signing a good contract. Each of those guys can add a certain element to the offense.

I could definitely see that, and I could see AV playing that 3rd line many minutes a night if thats where he is.

in AVs setup, his shutdown C will rarely get shifts in the offensive zone. While Stepan is by far the best defensive forward on this team, he is also probably the best offensive player on this team, so it makes little sense to utilize him for defensive role.

Well Kreider can skate, so I think you have to take advantage of that. Much more freighting for an opposing team to have a 220 pound guy going 90mph than a 220 pound guy standing still.

But either way, I'm not sure they can count on Nash or kreider to park in front for a large amount of minutes night after night.

Stay away from free agency. Sign an energy guy like Gordon or Nystrom that will address the PK if they intend on dumping Asham and Powe

The third line is supposed to be a two way or defensive line. So the list of guys you make would make no sense unless they were playing top 6.

a defensive line of Hagelin Boyle/Lindberg Callahan would be really good. Lindberg wud need time to earn that role but as a pure 3rd line defensive line i think we'd win a lot of "tilt in the ice" battles with that.

Kreider's speed can be an asset in front of the net IMO. He can play the usual bruising, PWF game, but he'll also be super fast to get to pucks behind the net and win board battles. I feel the Rangers should etch his way into becoming less of a perimeter/shooter type player and teach him how to work cycles, win board battles and work in front of the net. I don't think he has the hands to be a top tier sniper in this league, but he can still be an effective player.

Agreed, I like the look of that line. Great idea ecemleafs. Boyle still good on faceoffs, so he'll take the draw then shift positions with Lindberg. Just need to get Callahan and Boyle back into form in their best seasons....

Unless we get another center we're gonna be relying on Brian Boyle to do pretty much everything expect sniping again.

Raymond or Stalberg can't play a two-way game? Those two were top 6 forwards in VAN and CHI? I don't think so. Raymond has played for AV. Zucc has been criticized for his two-way game and he will be on the 3rd line. And given Zucc will likely be on the 3rd line that eliminates Briere because that line would be too small. Jagr on the other hand would create space for Zucc and Brass.

I really like the look of that line too, but I dont want to break up Hagelin-Stepan-Nash. This is where I think a guy like Mason Raymond on a decent contract could come in handy. Raymond-Boyle-Callahan would also be a shut down line while leaving Hagelin to stay with Stepan and Nash.

That's going to be a problem with Zucc all year, if he isn't top 6, the team is going to have problems finding where to play him.

Jagr isn't going to come play on the 3rd line, neither is briere. They both want to be top 6.

Could do that with Miller too, miller, Boyle, cally. Two centers on the defensive line is a must, IMO.

I dont think we have the most offense for sure, but I still believe this team will score more goals under AV already without adding anyone.

Kreider could slot in one of those spots if we teach him how to use his speed like Hagelin does.

That could work because Boyle and Callahan could make up for the lack of two way game in Miller right now.

also, allows Hags to stay with Stepan and Nash.

kreider has to step up and be consistent on a line with stepan and nash to keep hagelin and callahan in that "AV 3rd line role"

How do you know that about Jagr. How can you be so sure of that with his age. He could very well be in a top 9 role next year.

Definitely. Bottom line is because of our cap situation Kreider has to be a good player this year for us to compete.

I agree and IF Kreider can play like he's capable of playing, I think he's a perfect compliment to playing with Nash on the other wing of Stepan.

jagr looked done in the playoffs. he is so slow and an 82 season grind is just gonna make him useless towards the end of the season and playoffs.
