He's a little better offensively and much more consistent. Nystrom, as previously discussed, has had like two non-horrible offensive output seasons and both were when he had a hugely higher shooting %.

It's just people wanting change to make change because you can pretty much find complaints with every single 3rd/4th liner in the league so it's easy to ask for turnover.

And yea neither are that good but one is already under contract and the other is a UFA which means he's almost certainly going to get overpaid relative to his worth.

agreed. nystrom is nothing special. very unnoticeable player with the Flames.

but you have to factor that pyatt actually played with the Sedins for a season or two IIRC.

Yup, Sather will be signing an enforcer tomorrow, no doubt. It's a July tradition. Can't wait to see which lumbering goon will be slowing down our 4th line.

Considering the Brian McGratton is literally the only goon UFA out there, I'm not too worried.

Sather's target

I will ****ing vomit. There is no player I want less on this team.

I'm not kidding. That's the kind of move that could lead to me stop watching the Rangers when he's playing. Maybe just not even games, I'll just change the channel when he's on the ice, and come back sixty seconds later.

That's how much I hate Cooke

Brian McGratton, come on down. You're the next contestant on the revolving door of failed Rangers goon UFA signings.

Valid point (he had a bunch of PPG two years with vancouver) but he did have some decent numbers in Phoenix as well. Nothing special but still better than Nystrom. He's a capable player. Not very noticeable but he gets the job done. I feel like some people would prefer someone like Hollweg just because he's all over the place even though he really provides absolutely nothing except hits.

I'd actually like Cooke also lol.

We do need some toughness though. I mean, we did lose Gaborik.

But seriously, are people comfortable with the size and strength we have? MZA is our most aggressive and volatile player for ****s sake.

You'll be back, remember when Sather signed this guy?

Never doubt Sather's shrewdness.

well he has history with substance abuse... i can see Sather signing him. he did give Billy Tibbetts a chance :help:

And Richards is the ? line center, and Grabovski would be the ? line center?

If you go after grabovski, you pretty much have to move brassard, he's the only center they can move (apart from Boyle, but he could be a bottom 6 wing too)

Why would we sign Grabovski? Boyle is a better option for the 4th line, and Stepan, Brassard and Richards are all better options for lines 1 through 3.

Yup, agreed 100%. Moar hits, less hockey.

I'm not advocating signing him. I was responding to a couple people saying that they should

Hearing that Claude Giroux and the Flyers are close to agreeing to an 8-yr deal worth north of $8 M a year...

Jesus, are Pittsburgh and Philly going to be able to ice complete teams after next season?

Well they both have $ coming off the books...but I think both are also clearly expecting the cap to go up big.

Long term what they're doing is fine, but if they're counting on Steve Mason and the defense they have now without trading Schenn, Couturier, or Voracek for a defenseman they're not in a good position for the next couple years at all.

The cap will be back up to $80 million within 5 years, but it's not going to go up as dramatically as they hope I think. $3-4 million a season maybe.

in about 4-5 years IF the cap rises those deals may look like steals, but for the next few years unless the cap jumps up to 70 mill for the 2014-2015 season, it is going to be really hard to be competitive with depth. As we are seeing now, good depth helps not a few superstars.
