I'm a big Matthew Tkachuk fan but I think Gaudreau drove the bus on that line.

We need a Debrincat type way more than we need another Tkachuk type.

Not proposing any of the below. Just food for thought.

Lets say the trade was something like: Debrincat, Branstrum, (Picks) <-> M. Tkachuk, Andersson (Picks). AND with Mathew agreeing to same deal as Brady. (lol, yeah not likely...but that's the incentive for us to do the deal and for the brothers to play/win together).

So PD is looking at locked up Mathew and Andersson VS maybe locked up Debrincat at likely a higher price if he gets anywhere near 40 goals again. I can see the value here, but still not saying I'd do it.

Out of curiosity I quickly mapped out both on CP. (Debate the values of individual resigns all you want, what matters more I think is the amounts per position. ie: if you don't think Formenton will sign for 3mil then we use the amount on another 3rd liner. )

Both of these scenarios leave us over the cap in 2023-24 with still back-up goalie???, depth???, etc. issues.

A) Tkachuk Bro Version

B) Stay the Course Version

Nice problems to have, but PD is going to have to work magic in either scenario.

I swear we are the only sane Canadian fan base.

Our offers for debrincat and chycrun were so high lol.

Meanwhile Toronto expected batherson to take Murray.

Habs fans posting about Hoffman Armia and a second for Dubois.

Calgary fans with that bullshit.

Jets fans saying Sami Niku was untouchable in a Mark Stone trade.

Edmonton is Edmonton enough said.

So many examples but the Pageau threads really stand out to me.

Hopefully Matthew refuses to sign long-term with any team and reaches UFA next off-season.

I know no one wants to consider this as a possibility, but if DeBrincat doesn't want to sign long-term in Ottawa it would be sweet if we could trade him for assets in the off-season and sign Tkachuk.

We're getting greedy... First it was getting frustrated that we haven't just gone out and closed on a top 4 D yet, now we're circling like Vultures over Cgy

I'm just going to sit back, relax, and enjoy the things Dorion has accomplished this summer and not worry too much about the next big prize.

I'm hoping that we'll see an RD trade soon but we may not. Still the best offseason in recent memory.

If Matthew wants to play with Brady, he can sign here in a year when he's a UFA. Trading valuable assets to bolster the strongest part of the roster (wingers) is ludicrously stupid asset management for a team that really (maybe desperately, even) needs a strong top 4 RHD.

There is no scenario where we end up with Tkachuk. It doesn't make sense from a salary cap standpoint.

He is going to get traded now for a poor return because he will walk himself to UFA. The only scenario where he'd sign long term is something like 10-11M in St. Louis.

Calgary fans are going to be really underwhelmed with the return.

Matthew is NOT coming to Ottawa. And he isn't interested in playing with his little brother.

In addition to making the Flames aware that he won’t be re-signing with the organization that picked him at No. 6 in the 2016 NHL Draft, Tkachuk has supplied them with a list of teams with whom he would agree to a long-term contract, according to multiple sources. Tkachuk does have some power over where he might land, given that teams likely won't want to pay as large of a trade price for him as a rental.

One source familiar with Tkachuk’s list said that St. Louis, Vegas, Florida, Nashville and Dallas are options. New Jersey and the New York Rangers are also among the other teams that have expressed interest in the pas
t.

All about securing the bag.

List is home ( St Louis ) , low tax areas or NYC. Very typical for NHL players.

They're in such a bad spot because even without Gaudreau/Tkachuk they're nowhere near bad enough to land one of the really big fish in 2023 unless they fluke a lottery win.

They're going to mediocre for a few years, then awful. Like probably 7-8 years from where they were this year.
