Flames are better off doing a rebuild. Their core wasn’t going to take them anywhere.

agree. They're in no mans land, or were. Not good enough to be a legit challenger, not bad enough to get a high pick.

Sucks for Flames fans, but its probably for the best. They need some high end prospects.

On the UFA market for D, it seems like the only legit options left are DeHaan and Klingberg... am I forgetting anyone?

On the trade market, it's a damn shame we couldn't get Marino, it looks like a JBD + pick deal would have done the trick. Who else might be available other than the rumoured Chychrun + Weegar, maybe Andersson or Tanev? Are there other teams in rebuilds/cap crunches who might be willing to deal a D?

Flames will get Bedard but ONLY if they trade Tanev or Andersson over here.

How bad of a job as Treliving done, got caught with this pants down after the season, got the hockey world to turn on Gaudreau but the jokes on him.

Sutter could still drag them along, but they are in no man’s land right now. Not bad enough to tank, not good enough to compete

Tkachuk and Johnny hockey weren’t going to with them a cup.

Formenton ++ for Andersson.

Character is such a big part of Dorion’s rebuild, this thing could totally blow up in his face if things go sideways.

Summer of our discontent of Summer of our content?. Nobody knows yet

Well the character of the team is looking horrible with two players on this roster. We’ll see how Dorion addresses this major issue this summer.

Flames have a heck of a lot of chips to deal though. It'd be a good time to burn it down since their hand is being forced.

Markstrom, Hanifin, Anderson, Lindholm, Tkachuk, Kylington, Mangiapane, Tanev, Toffoli among others should get decent returns.

I wouldn't mind a Forsberg for Markstrom swap and let Talbot walk next year for a cheap backup or Sogaard.

The Tkachuk news just spotlights an already huge problem. Taxation differences amongst different markets. They really need to figure out a way to even the playing field. $1M in Ottawa is a different amount of money compared to $1M in Florida.

Do people ever get tired of whining about this?

Tkachuks are all about money

no thanks to Matthew. One is enough

So are owners though. Purely speculative, but...

A successful team is the most valuable. But Debrincat or Batherson+ don't guarantee success that much more than swapping them for M Tkachuk. (From an owners point of view.)

But a Tkachuk brothers in their prime as an identify for the next 6-7 years is pretty marketable regardless of success.

If you were trying to position the team for sale/investment, is core plus maybe Debrincat or core plus locked up Tkachuks more appealing.

For the record, I personally think Debrincat is the better player (more proven track record), I don't think M. Tkachuk will sign for what I think he's worth (about same as Brady) especially in Canada, and I don't think Calgary would accept what we'd offer (a little more than what we paid for Debrincat)...regardless of the chemistry risks.

But, if there is any truth to Ottawa's interest in something this massive, how could long-term ownership interests (whatever they are) not be a factor?
